HAVERHILL, Mass. -- A 19-year-old Lowell man pleaded not guilty to raping a 12-year-old Georgetown girl he had met over the Internet, the Essex County district attorney's office said.

Nathaniel Bishop on Wednesdady entered his plea in Haverhill District Court to charges of enticing a child under 16, rape of a child, unnatural acts on a child under 14 and indecent assault and batter on a child under 14.

Judge Kevin Herlihy ordered Bishop held on $200,0000 cash bail, and scheduled a status hearing on Sept. 9.

Assistant District Attorney John DePaulo alleged that Bishop enticed the child over the Internet, met with her late at night on June 20 at the American Legion Pond in Georgetown, and raped her.

The investigation began after the alleged victim told a sibling, who then told their parents. (AP)
