BUsh could have easily been sent over with the air guard, though, and a pilot's life expectancy is far less than that of a troop on the ground. When he enrolled for the air guard there could not have been any "guarantee" that he wouldn't be sent over, though it's easy to be led to beleive there was no chance of it.
