I was hoping a few of you might have a little experience with car audio. I've got a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse with the infinity premium sound system. Not sure what the point is, since theres so much road noise in that car that I couldn't tell the difference between premium anything and a boombox.

Anyhoo, my 4 disc cd player has started making scratchy shit noises. It's all four discs, so I assume the laser is dirty. I could pop out the player (if your familiar with the setup, that would be a pain) and clean the laser pretty easy. However if I'm going to pop anything out, I'd much rather just throw in a single disc player that can read mp3 files. Problem is, everyone I talk to says that I need to bypass the factory power amp from the infinity system and run new wires to the speakers.

Does anyone know why? I like the amp, I think it's matched to the speakers fine. Why would I need to completely bypass it, and install a new one? Is it wired into the player itself?

How could I get around this? I was just looking to buy a cheap-o deck for under $100. To pay for that, a new amp, and installation will probably go way over that. I could do the installation myself, but I'm a lazy lazy man. Is there any way to just install a second deck and utilize the power section of the first one? I have an extra din slot, so I could fit it.

If anyone took the time to read this, or can help me out and explain this crap to me, I appreciate it.
