Well I believe that we may be onto something BUT, what I do know is that farts most certainly smell quite a bit different when filtered through a foot or 2 of water. It's obvious that the smell still permeates the air to some extent, but it's really missing that awful edge.

Therefore, I am wondering if the methane molecules somehow bond with the hydrogen or oxygen molecules that are present in the water, therefore greatly diminishing the smell of the fart.

It's a strange concept, but I would find this to be a very interesting topic on a show such as Mythbusters, or the subject of a lecture. I might actually take notes.

Any other ideas?
