As for speed, I always go down the search results list and download their filelist to check what kind of speed they have. I rarely download slower than 80 kbps, which will take around 3 hours for a full film. Yeah, it's not super fast, but if you've got 4-5 different movies downloading while you watch t.v. or play some games, it's not bad at all.

As for people logging off, you can just go into dowload qeue, right click the file, search for alternates, and choose "dowload to .. (original file), the download will pick up exactly where the other left off.
