I think the drumming world is pretty cut-throat, but mostly because if someones better than you your band will most likely ditch you for them given the chance. Understandably so. When a band has a bad drummer, or even a not fantastic drummer EVERYONE notices. Drummer makes a mistake at a show, the ENTIRE room grimaces. And strangely enough, i've noticed that most of the real good drummers know they are real good and have a relaxed confident disposition which translates into coming off as nice.
