Every time I think of Native Americans trying to make their place in Washington, all I can think of are the Narragansetts in Rhode Island back in 2006 lobbying to build a casino outside of their reservation that would involve changing the state constitution to legally build and provided bonus monetary incentives for only people of their heritage. Their argument for it was that somehow money from this casino would fund schools and taxpayers rather than line the pockets of the owners and they should get to build it because their smoke shop got raided a few years earlier, an incident that escalated to being a riot after the Narragansetts barricaded the doors from state troopers with violent force.
