The mystery of the two eternities of microcosm and macrocosm which meet in the human psyche is closely related to what Jung in his later works came to call synchronicity, a concept with more extensive implications than is commonly assumed. There was a time when the principle of causality was regarded as absolutely valid in scientific thought and the possibility of an acausal principle connecting events in time would have appeared a total impossibility.
