we'll i'd have to agree with you there. there's really only so many ways to chug an open E chord, and earth crisis did all of them. The open E chug breakdown got really popular in the late 90's, and early 2000's influx of metalcore bands. back then it was something new. it was kind of a post-modern concept in a way, the idea that you could accomplish something with just one note. but it was over used an abused so quickly, and so poorly that it really became a crutch for bands who had nothing new to offer. i think in 2004 theres no excuse to still be trying to force the same 1 note breakdown into every song.
