Sounds like you fried the output transformer, a-la some retard running it with no speaker load attached. I could be wrong, I don't know much about tube amps these days, but that is EXACTLY the sounds and effects I was getting on my old JCM800 I fried the output transformer on. Farty noises, loss of signal, abrupt drop in volume, etc....
