but booking one of the most unique and FUCKING LOUD bands in America that tour slightly less than bi-annually does get word of mouth.

but yeah I have a scientific formula for shows: it's called the 20% rule, and if you test it it's just shy of being totally accurate.

Take the number of flyers you put up or give out, factor in (by addition) a reasonable # for who you invited by mouth, told about the show, or add in about 3-4 people for everywebsite you post on (give or take) and then multiply that by 20%. You get how many people you can expect.

i generally make 500 flyers if I'd like to expect about 100 people. Always overshoot and do more than your expection, as the rule says you get 20% or LESS people.

of course you find that sometimes you make 20 flyers and get 100 people or you make 1000 flyers and get 20 people, so this is just a tool to help you motivate yourself to make more flyers.

I work by it all the time.
