I talked to Shred and he said I can get more shows in the future at O'Brien's Pub, though I will still attempt to book at more and more venues all over eastern Massachusetts.. I have some other ideas that I have been sharing with people I've talked to since I heard about the Block closing, and though that is still by far my favorite club ever, I promised that I will continue to block metalcore at every turn.
So to sum this all up:

BOOYA!

caveat: "metalcore" being defined arbitrarily. bands that joe likes = not metalcore. bands that joe doesn't like = metalcore.
since Kevorkians Angels are influenced by 80's metal-core

There was no metalcore in the 80's. There was crossover. DRI, SOD, and the Accused have nothing to do with gay shit like the Dillenger Escape Plan and Converge.

can someone please define metalcore?

toggletoggle post by dirteecrayon  at Oct 14,2004 11:47am
http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Metalcore

Spawned sometime during the 90's, metalcore is as the name divulges a more metallic offshoot of classic hardcore punk, in particular the kind made popular during the 80's by bands such as Minor Threat, the Bad Brains and so on.

when i think of real hardcore, i think of sick of it all and bands like that. more punk than metal.

Josh is correct, cross-over stuff is not the same as the metalcore genre. If I am wrong about what I consider metalcore, then most people I know are just as wrong as me, and all of it sucks.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Oct 14,2004 12:07pm
the bands who don't like joe are probably the metalcore bands who suck up to everyone on the waaf boards.

Cross over nu-metal/metalcore is the worst shit out there.

And I do think I know why bands hate me, because I don't kiss up to everyone that I don't like and I speak my mind regardless of who might hear it (or read it). I am not going to cater to bands I want nothing to do with, so let them hate me.

I call bullshit on that definition. No metalcore band sounds anything at all like Minor Threat or Bad Brains (Bad Brains when they were good anyways, I don't really like anything after Rock for Light. If you want to go around saying you're very influenced by Quickness I'll point you in the general direction of the Ramrod)

if you're into grind/fast/heavy shit, how could you not like dillinger's 'calculating infinity'? all those elements are clearly in there.

If you were bashing shit like Atreyu, ect, then I might agree with you.

interesting, I didn't know wearing a black shirt and black pants was emo? I guess all metal kids are emo as well... or is he emo because the clothes he wears actually fit him and are not 4x too big?

you say someones a fag cause they were a 'gas station' jacket? wtf? Maybe they don't want to sound like scum grind... I bet the bands that play 'scum' grind couldn't keep up with DEP if they tried. Either way, they aren't fags just because they don't wear gigantic metal shirts and have long hair.

Why would anyone want to keep up with music that sounds gay?

You're right about why they're not fags. However you seem to be completely missing the point about why they are fags.

Why would I want to fight the singer of DEP? If I had to fight every band I think is gay all I would ever do is fight 24/7. Besides, the only reason I'm ragging on them so much is because you obviously really really like them. This is the most fun I've had at work in months. (although that doesn't mean I was "just kidding" about anything)

Also I don't forsee a situation where I would be in the same room as him. He probably thinks my band is as bad as I think his is. I make fag repelling music.

I've never understood how riffs that have annoying time changes and too many notes in them are "challenging". When I hear them, I can understand what's going on no problem. I just don't like it. That shit doesn't make me want a calculator like some people joke you need to listen to DEP, it just makes me want a condom so I don't get AIDS from it. It just doesn't rock. Thanks for making this day go by that much faster though.

Uh, isn't that what metal message boards are for? Discussing opinions on metal? No one gives a fuck what you, me, or anyone else thinks. Its
ALL opinions. I thought that went without saying. I guess not. I gave my opinion on a gay band, you gave your opinion on a gay band.

I'd bet though, if we had a contest on this board of old school grind vs gay DEP "grind" that my side would win. I don't why that matters but you seem to think it does.

Weren't you the guy who thought Macabre wasn't a fit replacement for Gayder? I think you were in the minority on that one. Maybe you should go to a different board where people care more about technicality than just kicking ass.

BTW I think Macabre are proof that you can be really good at your instrument and still not sound like a band full of gaylords.

I don't find DEP to be heavy at all and you say "technical" like its a good thing. To me technical means "I can't write a good riff so I'll just play something really gay and complicated that will impress other fags just like me"

"I gave my opinion on a gay band, you gave your opinion on a gay band", now its handinjury's turn......

I like DEP, so if they are "gay" cause they make "gay" music, that i like ("gay") maybe i am gay, a couple other of my favorite bands are, suffoctaion, deeds of flesh, origin, cannibal, gorgasm etc. So if someone dont like those bands, like say you think deeds is "gay"(HA) , but i like deeds so therfore i am gay. This sums just about everything in life, no wonder Don Decker refers to many things as being "gay"
Getting back to this comment ....>"To me technical means "I can't write a good riff so I'll just play something really gay and complicated that will impress other fags just like me"
I allways thought of technical (in my playing that is) as things that are a challenge to play or pulloff or involve heavy concentration. For example in Anoxia, i have riffs that are like a fucking cunt to play(physically) then there are riffs that are no problem to play. What makes a technical riff gay? Did i write this riff solely on being Tech cause ...>"I can't write a good riff so I'll just play something really gay and complicated that will impress other fags just like me". yeeeaaaahhhh im gay!!!!!
For example what i find TECH to play may be pretty standard to rustedangel. So, who would that make "gayer" ??? If hes more "techinally gay" than me , that makes him supreme gay ! Or the bottom line is we are both gay.
I had a lot of laughs of this thread, i think ill pack another one and re-read. Cheers

i would like to state that i just almost pissed myself laughing so hard reading this thread... and for the record, be it right or wrong, i clasify bands like, atreyu, bleeding through, thursday, between the buried and me, autumn to ashes, and gay ass shit like that as metalcore... but even using the word "core" makes me feel gay... i just think mosh sucks, and thats as bad as metalcore and nu-metal... i also personally hate being pre-disposed by anyone and shoved in a specific sub-genre, if ya like it, cool, if not, then dont listen, i dont give a fuck if someone else thinks i should or not, fuck em all

I thought all of those bands from the 80s were called crossover. Either that or they were just called hardcore or thrash. But metalcore?

Music is totally gay, def poetry slams are straight.

This was the best thread ever. Me and Angel should have a CNN Crossfire type show about grindcore and death metal.

caveat: "metalcore" being defined arbitrarily. bands that joe likes = not metalcore. bands that joe doesn't like = metalcore.
since Kevorkians Angels are influenced by 80's metal-core

this is Bradness
what the hell are you talking about?

this thread is more than mildly retarded.
good music is good music.
bad music is bad music.

and stuff...
