Dimmu was always gay. Stormblast was ok but even that was a bit borderline. This sad turn of events comes as no suprise to me after watching Garm slowly become known as "Trickster G". Maybe theres something in the water up there. Who knows.

I heard his wife is a european porn star or something like that. Still doesn't top vincent's gayness.

Next thing you guys will be posting pictures of corpsegrinder hugging his daughter and calling him gay for it.

If I could find the interview I would post it, but DIMMU is fully aware that they are not fully black metal these days and mentioned how they have black metal influences. What levels do dimmu stoop too to get noticed? They dress like every other black metal band live.

On a side note, ICS Vortex has an incredible singing voice, I wish he'd do fulltime vocals for a band. Nick Barker blows most metal drummers out of the water... Galder only 3 words for him: Old mans Child.

There is no Hot Topic in Europe, besides their shit is too extreme to be sold in hot topic. We work with hot topic for shirts, and they will not accept any design with pentagrams or a drastic amount of skulls on them.

1. when i saw them about 6 months ago at ozzfest in NJ...they kept asking everyone if they were ready for some 'true norwegian black metal'. i was ready....

2. they dress like assholes. shagrath wears a god damn leather skirt. and theyll do whatever they can to become bigger rockstars and more famous and blablablablalbala. they should focus more on not sucking.

toggletoggle post by retzam at Dec 2,2004 3:40pm
Yeah, dimmu is gay because of that picture. Also, Iron Maiden are gay because in the 80s they wore spandex on stage. I won't listen to their music because of that. Judas Priest are gay because halford's a faggot, fucking gay faggot, that band sucks. Motorhead are gay because I saw this one picture of Lemmy once and he was wearing a Beatles shirt, that's so gay, I hate their music because of that picture. Also, fucking Venom, so gay, I saw this one picture of them once where one of them had a fucking hat on, it was fucking g4y gehy gay3 and made them the worst band ever. Also, anyband that has ever had any members who have ever worn leather pants is gay and talentless.

toggletoggle post by dan. at Dec 2,2004 3:44pm
dude they do not dress like every other black metal band alive. i dont really care what they wear. the only other band they dress like is cradle of filth. its fuckin gay. you cant compare spandex to a black leather skirt. sorry. saying they dress like any black metal band is ridiculous.

but i dont even care what they wear because DB hasnt even been remotely good since enthroned darkness and their gayness lies in the fact that THEY SUCK.

how can you not compare black leather skirt to SPANDEX? That doesn't even make any sense. Scottish people wear skirts, they're all gay too? Mel gibson is gay in braveheart cause he was wearing a kilt.

explain to me how exactly how dimmu sucks at playing music aside from your opinion? they own most true black metal bands musically. The true black metal community should be happy that dimmu might turn on many young kids onto 'true norweigan black metal'.

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Dec 2,2004 3:53pm
But Dimmu arent black metal. And i know lots of black metal bands that dont dress like fruitcakes. In fact all the black metal bands i know personally dont dress like that.

toggletoggle post by dan. at Dec 2,2004 3:54pm
because spandex is metal (see: 80s) and wearing a skirt is metrosexual and being metrosexual isnt very metal. and mel gibson decapitated people in braveheart. shagrath gets interviewed by rolling stone.

i didnt say they sucked at "playing" music...they are "good musicians"..but dude..if youve honestly listened to their last 2 albums and thought they were fine pieces of music...then awesome..enjoy. i think they suck.

if you're from europe and you wear a skirt on stage, you're not gay. only in the US. is wearing a skirt considered gay. last time I checked they were from norway.

for their style I thought the last 3 albums were some of their best work, they broke the chains of having records that sound like shit and put something out that actually sounded good. How can you not like ICS's clean vox? Shit is almost epic. haha.

on Stormblast and For All Tid. Dimmu really doesn't bother me because my friend Marius is really into them and he isn't like "DIMMU IS TEH TRUEST GERMAN BLACK METAL BAND EVER!!!" He actually enjoys their music which is why people should listen to music.

So Rusted, let me see if i understand you. Are you saying that because Dimmu albums are better produced than most real black metal bands that makes them a better band? Or that drummers who use triggers are better than real drummers just because it sounds cleaner? Have you ever heard Ulver's "Madrigal of the night"? Thats just one example of steller musicianship with tin can recording.

toggletoggle post by paganmegan   at Dec 2,2004 4:45pm
i sometimes like the "tin can" recording style better, for black metal, it gives it a certain edge

toggletoggle post by swamplorddvm  at Dec 2,2004 4:46pm
Talent or should I say Music that makes you feel, smile, laugh, angry or even cry. That's what matters. not production.

Exactly what im tryin to say

toggletoggle post by Bradness at Dec 2,2004 4:51pm

was part of my point yes...I'm not doubting all musicianship from bands with shitty recordings, but I gotta say a lot of the underground black metal shit I've heard has shitty playing, super reptative, horrible guitar tone, ect. My favorite thing about those reviews is the bullshit the guy makes up to sound like he has an intricate understanding of music theory and recording techniques.

Somebody post that picture of dimmu poolside.

fuck all of y'all, dimmu=awesome, who cares about the picture.

Immortal has a ton of homo-erotic pictures... but their music still rules. Dimmu still rules as well so um... die.

i don't get why people are arguing.

so someone doesn't like dimmu borgir

and people think that picture is funny

stupid thing to waste typing on. i'm mortified by the fact that i'm doing it now. wtf

hahaha, the issue is that people are basing their opinions of bands on the way the band dresses and their interest in shooting funny pictures of themselves, not that people don't like dimmu.

You can't be, they are really cheesy and not for every black metal fan, and Battles In The North is a horrible album.

did i say that at all?! i put this pic on here for the people who think dimmu is a huge joke as they made themselves, shagrath is a joke and his vocals are shit to any type of metal they call themselves today, they should have broken up and died with pride a long time ago
thanks to the people who fagged this thread even more than the picture itself

Don't even get me started on the triggers debate. Saying drummers who use triggers suck is like saying guitarist's that use amplifiers suck.

I dont think they suck. I just think its cheating a little. IMO thatd be the same as if i somehow programed my guitar to do a sick solo without me even trying. Dont get me wrong, morbid angel are still one of my favorite death metal bands but ive got more respect for bands like Destruction that sound just as good and dont use triggers.

I'll say this once again, just because you use triggers does not mean you're a bad drummer (or cheating). MA drumming vs' DESTRUCTION's drumming, there's no comparison. Pete rules then even without triggers. Triggers do not play the drum's for you, and saying it's like a guitar playing a solo for you, that is so idiotic. You still use real drums, it's not a drum machine that you pre-program out before the show. Triggers give your drumset clarity which is imo essential for playing fast. Some guitarist with shitty amps that have no clarity just sound like white noise... It's the same idea...Especially in a live setting...otherwise if you're not headlining it will sound like ass over a PA almost all the time.

I think the white noise thing really hurts some black metal bands. Unless you're wearing headphones or have a pretty good cd player you can't really hear what they're doing.

The only triggers ive seen are on Nefarious' drum set and the ones Dave Suzuki has in his practice space and they both work so that they make the same noise no matter how hard you hit the drums. So yea youre playing fast but you could just be tapping the snare or bass pedal and it would make this thundering manowar production drum sound regardless of how hard you hit it. Some drumemrs can do that without triggers and its nice to see that every once in awhile because its rare these days.

And i edited this post because i accidentally sent it too early because im stoned.

FACT, the faster the bpm, the less time you have to hit the drum again. Sure some drummers hit harder than others at faster speeds, but doesn't mean the drummer is cheating. He just doesn't hit as hard and wants people to be able to hear the drums as well as if he were playing a slow beat.

So it becomes a case of the band being faster than their drummer? I don't like it when triggers are used on slower songs. But, you really can't fault someone for using triggers if they need them to keep up with the guitarists(and considering how some bands focus on technicality and speed, triggers are almost essential to providing a beat that doesn't sound like shit)

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Dec 3,2004 10:55am
well if some drummers can get the same sound without triggers then why dont all those uber amazing drummers who do use triggers try doing it without them?

It's probably just the sound they want.(although most of us don't want it)
I think the last time the trigger issue came up someone mentioned how when you see him live, it's obvious that Hellhammer hits his drums hard and fast enough to get a natural thundering sound but he prefers the "consistency" or something like that of the triggers.

toggletoggle post by paganmegan   at Dec 3,2004 11:03am
drums without triggers definitely sound better... not like the fake typewriter clacky sound of triggers...

toggletoggle post by paganmegan   at Dec 3,2004 11:04am
Triggers aren't too far off from electronic drum sets... in that they just don't sound as good

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Dec 3,2004 11:13am
not all triggers sound clicky, you can control the sound yourself.

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Dec 3,2004 11:18am
Put it this way... When your bass drum is triggered and well defined, you better make fuckin sure that you play tight or everyone will hear your mistakes. In some ways triggers can be a hindrance!!

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Dec 3,2004 11:19am
yea you can get your bass drums to sound like bongos or orchestra hits or pretty much any sound a synthesizer has......

So it would be possible to play a guitar solo on your drums, correct? This needs to be explored.

I wish I had a triggered drum kit right now. I need to hear a guitar solo (or any non percussion solo) played on a drum kit.

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Dec 3,2004 11:25am
so you're saying karl sanders / nile cheats at guitar with his midi pickup

this is like debating Digital vs Film.

They are a tool, used well they can help add range and variation.

In the end it comes down to the sound you want to produce.

If triggers can give you an extra something then why not hell if you need a 10ft gong for one hit at the end of one song, why not.

Music is all about invention and creativity, the more tools you have the more choice you have.

And yes sometimes simple is best but other times why not go a little crazy.

Music is about imagination and feel not about technical ability.

In the end technique, acoustic drums, electronic pads, cymbals, triggers, etc... etc...

are all just tools to release the creativity you have inside you.

If it sounds right who cares what you used to create it.

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Dec 3,2004 11:30am
Tom i completely agree with you on that. I honestly dont care what people use as long as it sounds good. People were accusing Pink Floyd of the same crap back in the day because of all the effects they use and those guys are one of my favorite bands. I just cant stand it when people say one band or one style of music is better than another just because their sound is cleaner.

To me the cleaner it sounds as a metal album...and crisp, the more I can enjoy it because I can hear what's going on. I've heard too many metal bands put out albums on labels that sound like ass and it's hard to enjoy because you can't hear what's goin on unless they play something slow, and well, some bands don't play anything slower.

but thats what can be so cool about black metal sometimes. the harsh white noise sound almost puts you in a trance and you end up hearing melodies in the music that arent even there. maybe ive done too much acid but thats what im talking about when i say its about the atmosphere. to me music should take you somewhere almost like its telling a story.

re: effects and all that crap

yeah, Floyd got a lot of shit for that. Roger Waters had a great response, something like "it's all extensions of what's coming out of our heads; the instruments aren't doing anything by themselves, so if we didn't have it in our heads in the first place the instruments would be useless." I don't remember exactly what he said, but I'm sure he doesn't either...

Yes! that is from pink floyd at pompeii!! He says, not everyone is going to pick up a guitar and be eric clapton and not everyone that uses technology will be them (floyd)

best pink floyd video ( I like it better than the wall)

I think, in relation to the debate about triggers and so forth, it should be about the musician using the technology, and not vice versa, or used as a crutch to cover up inadequacy
