I was hoping a few of you might have a little experience with car audio. I've got a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse with the infinity premium sound system. Not sure what the point is, since theres so much road noise in that car that I couldn't tell the difference between premium anything and a boombox.

Anyhoo, my 4 disc cd player has started making scratchy shit noises. It's all four discs, so I assume the laser is dirty. I could pop out the player (if your familiar with the setup, that would be a pain) and clean the laser pretty easy. However if I'm going to pop anything out, I'd much rather just throw in a single disc player that can read mp3 files. Problem is, everyone I talk to says that I need to bypass the factory power amp from the infinity system and run new wires to the speakers.

Does anyone know why? I like the amp, I think it's matched to the speakers fine. Why would I need to completely bypass it, and install a new one? Is it wired into the player itself?

How could I get around this? I was just looking to buy a cheap-o deck for under $100. To pay for that, a new amp, and installation will probably go way over that. I could do the installation myself, but I'm a lazy lazy man. Is there any way to just install a second deck and utilize the power section of the first one? I have an extra din slot, so I could fit it.

If anyone took the time to read this, or can help me out and explain this crap to me, I appreciate it.

regarding the removal of any type of factory car stereo, all you should need is a wire harness kit and you should be able to hook up any car cd player under the sun with no problem. I've hook up a stereo in a jeep once that had a pretty nice factory infinity speaker and amp set up and all I needed was a wire harness to hook the new into the old wire set up.

The thing is, the package I have in the eclipse is really integrated. Theres a dash top display, 4 disc changer, the controls are all the way on the bottom of the console. I think the amp may be built into the player itself, as crutchfield even says the factory amp must be bypassed and new wires run to the speakers.

hmmmmm. That is quite possibly very well beyond my understanding.
I'd google it.

I tried google. Still browsing it. Everything I find has me installing a new amp. I'd love to get around that.

I didn't want to spend much, since the car is gay and isn't worth any more of my money.

the fac radio has wires that go to the fac amplifier. the wires that go into the fac amplifier should have the ends that connect to the wiring harness hung mentioned. also if you change fac stereo to a aftermarket you also need the mounting kit fitted for your cars make in addition to the wiring harness
