We're heading into a recession. You've heard about it for months, even years, what with the housing bubble, the war in Iraq, overextended consumer credit -- you name it. A recent Merrill Lynch (NYSE: MER - News) report says that the U.S. economy will grow by only 1.9% next year, down from 3.4% this year, and slower than the global growth rate of 5.2%. Even slowpoke Europe should pass us at 2.1%, though the U.S. is ahead of the average European GDP growth rate of 2.7%.

If these numbers are even close to reality, your next course of action should be obvious: Invest somewhere else for a while. The good folks behind that report suggest Japan, India, and Brazil as eminently suitable targets.

What's more, they expect that interest rate differences will cause the dollar to lose value against the yen, Chinese renminbi, and Scandinavian currencies, which means that even mediocre businesses in those regions should produce decent share-price returns over here, thanks to the magic of currency conversion.

This is propaganda spread by those who really hate our freedom: the fascists. America is the greatest land ever and she will always be wealthy.

Hahahaha... Mastodon is a minority group.

All you guys need to spend less attention to your own pocketbooks and these so called experts, and start watching Fox News, they'll tell you how great the economy is doing. And it's not just Fox; after all, Pat Meebles said right here on rttp a couple days ago that "to say that the economy isn't good now can only be the result of total brainwashing." So I don't know where these silly made up terms like GDP and Merrill Lynch get off trying to criticize our economy, it's totally un-American, and provides safe harbor for the terrorists.

I mean it would be one thing if not caring about our deficits to other countries somehow had the effect of making our currency less valuable, but since those other countries don't have as free a market as we do, they'll never catch up to us even if we burn cash every day for entertainment, so these egghead America-hating economists can go and play with their numbers while we enjoy the most robust economy we've ever had.

P.S. Anyone have a dollar I can borrow?

hahahahahahaha...oh man, that was great...

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Sep 28,2006 12:41pm
i agree Shadow. i see a disintegrating state of our society, but not economical.

toggletoggle post by SacreligionNLI at Sep 28,2006 12:45pm
that's been going on for 2000 years

the more we make our lives easier the worse we become as people

Maybe it should collapse. This country is a racist, anti-Semitic, sexist hellhole that should be replaced by pious, tolerant Mexicans, Indians, Africans and Inuit.

does this mean cheaper admission to metal shows?
