I got a new laptop from work.
T7200 core 2 duo with 2GB RAM (I think it's 667MHz, but windows keeps saying 997 and 1.35GHZ), and a 100GB hd.

my only issue is that the task manager only shows one CPU. anyone?

damn it.. it's only showing one of the cores...
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=36774
looks like I'm having the same issue as those people. I tried one of the things and that did nothing.

so under the processes tab in task manager you cant right click a process and manually set the core affinity?

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Feb 22,2007 3:00pm
the cpu speed is fluctuating probably due to cpu scalling. When not in use it slows down to save power.

i might be horribly wrong but i was under the impression the dual core 32 bit chips were simlar to 64 bit chips.... instead of having a 64 bit chip that is split in half as most 64bit machines usually work its 2 seperate 32 bit set ups so it doesnt have to be split? so if ur having a problem it would just be some stupid system setting f-up that could be ignored... i used to think that 64 bit processors handled data it in 64 bit chunks but thats not what this guy who worked for motorola told me... so i dunno

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Feb 22,2007 3:20pm
i gues i shouldnt trust this guy since he argued with me for an hour that cholestorol was in every type of food... even tho its only in animal products

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 22,2007 3:33pm
there is cholesterol in nuts.. and beans.

duo cores do no split 64bit words. they run as 2 separate cpus with their own processes.

my problem is the HAL that was installed. my HAL is set to a single cpu system "hal.dll" instead of the multiprocessor HAL "halmacpi.dll"
with out the, windows has no clue that there is a second processor to run things on. it shows hardware for the 2 CPUs but only uses one of them.

the system ram isn't getting the right info to the task manager from the HAL so the RAM speed isn't displaying right.

I tried everything I could, but it looks like an installation issue. they are going to fix it for tomorrow. the only way to fix it is to reinstall or repair with the right HAL.

Cholesterol is produced in the body, and is also derived from foods of animal origin such as meat, poultry, seafood and dairy products. Food from plant sources such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds do not contain cholesterol. The body needs cholesterol to enable certain minerals and water to pass from the bloodstream into and out of the body’s cells. In fact, cholesterol is so important that the liver creates it even if it’s not consumed in the diet.

The new Core 2 Duo has doubled the amount of on-board cache to 4 MB. Both chips have a 65 nm process technology architecture and support a 667-1066 MHz front-side-bus (FSB).

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Feb 22,2007 3:45pm
haha yea

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 22,2007 3:47pm
I got a T7200 cpu so it's the first one with 4mb. not sure about how they share it.
the splitting for words is how G4's worked with their 128bit works going into 64bit memoey with 2x64bits

I tried that at first, but it still couldn't see my other core cause of the windows install.

and when I use linux, I won't touch apt-get unless I was using debian/knoppix (which I wouldn't use). otherwise, I use yum. mm... yum!

OK, I just looked at my bottle of veggie oil. 0g cholesterol.
looks like my ambitions to drink straight vegetable oil will come true!

I used to use yum when I used fedora. Don't care much for the rpm format. Caused too many problems. Debian/Ubuntu and apt-get seems to work well at the moment.

my BFF has resently converted to ubuntu. he loves it.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 23,2007 12:32am
I use RHE 3/4 and some fedora.
Also I have my own distro of knoppix, but it's for my work.

toggletoggle post by Andy. at Feb 23,2007 2:00am
no but seriously... back to cholesterol

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 23,2007 2:27pm
I got the laptop back and it was still broken...

and I've been looking at things and they all have 0g cholesterol! I can't believe I didn't know that before. it's no wonder my bad cholesterol is about 1/2 what the target is. though my good cholesterol is down from where is should be.
