I went with Atthehaunted to his cousins shop (http://www.myspace.com/traderjans ) the other day and I have not been abl to stop thinking about this stuff. I am quite the gun collector/hunter and I have been interested in bows for quite a while now. Since I had never really had the chance to fire a bow I was always skeptical of going out and blowing cash on one. I had no clue if I would do any good, or if I even liked it. So we go in and he grabs me some arrows, and a big ass recurve bow and I am slinging arrows right away. My first couple shots were a little high, but after that I started getting the hang of it real fast. I am HOOKED!!!

There were two ranges in there to blast shots away with and I was having a great time. I wanted to stay there all day. Then I found out there is something like a hunting simulator. I couldn't wait to see it. I go in and watch these guys playing. It was absolutely awesome. They were in this long dark room (probably 30 yards long) and at the end was a movie screen. The screen is made of Kevlar and sensors. It projects film of deer on the screen and you take the shot. It scores you on how close to the heart you get. I watched these two guys battle back and forth for points and it looked like a ton of fun. I can't wait to pick up my own bow, go there and practice, and extend my hunting season.

Looks like this year I will be doing shotgun here, shotgun NH, rifle NH, Bow here, Bow in NH, and maybe a few other things. once I get 2 deer to stock my fridge up the fat kid will be happy!! I can't wait!

Anyone else here into archery?

I was, a long time ago. I used compound bows, though. In Plymouth, there was a rod&gun club, not sure if it's still there. They had an outdoor archery course that was pretty badass. It was a long trek through the woods with about 20-30 stations set up with fake deer targets and shit. Really fun, but lost a lot of arrows there.

yeah I want a really nice compound also. Fuck hunting big game with a recurve!! That rod and gun club is still there. I go there to fire my guns from time to time since I am not too far away.

Must be at least a little far away, because getting a damned gun permit around here is fucking impossible.

I am in New Bedford/Dartmouth. Just go to the safety courses and unless they have a legit reason they pretty much can't say dick about it. It's also eisier to get approved for like a class A large capacity (highest they give out) than like an F.I.D. card. Just make sure you state it is "For all lawful purposes" and you shouldn't have too hard of a time getting it.

i got a smaller compud bow when i was like 8 or 9... i tried to shoot at a target that was like 10 feet away. went right through the target then never saw the arrow again until my neighbor found it logged in his roof.

well i have been thinking about archery for a while and while i was in michigan to help my mom move... there was an archery place. 7 bucks for an hour of shooting there. i bought 4 used arrows since i have to use my own... i grabbed a recurve and shot away... my mom had to almost pull me out of the place. it was badass! im looking now for a cheaper used compound bow to get myself started.

Go to Trader Jans it's in Fall River a rather Large place my cousin Jill runs it, she knows more then anyone I know about archery. She's very helpful and the nicest person you could ever meet.

I got kicked out of gym class once for "accidently" aiming my bow and arrow at my gym teacher.

I have a Hoyt Trykon 29" draw 60-70 lbs.

I currently have it set at 65lb. draw and am shooting 340 grain carbon fiber Easton ST Epics with 100 grain Montec heads.

I use a Schaeffer drop away rest and Trijicon sights.

If you live anywhere near southern Maine you're more than welcome to come shoot with me at my place.

I used to be a fair shot; my parents were SCA nerds, so we had old-school yew recurve bows. Good times.

toggletoggle post by atthehaunted  at Jun 12,2007 2:22pm
Hoyt Trykon is a beast we sold alot of them when I worked there we also sold alot of Bowtech's those we selling like hot cakes. We had a patriot Dually at like 31" drawing at about 67lbs shooting 340fps he had one pin for 20/30/40 yds it was nuts. He couldn't shoot 3'ds because u couldn't get the arrows out cuz it was going so fast that it would melt the foam around the arrow. He also used to shoot the dart and actually shut it off.

toggletoggle post by atthehaunted  at Jun 12,2007 2:23pm
haha the SCA goes to my cousins shop like twice a week some of them are cool but most are insanely weird.

I've always wanted to get into archery, at least for turkey, if not deer. I just don't have time to add another season to the mix. Cool shit, though.
