wow, i just listened to these guys for the first time this weekend, one of those bands that i heard and thought "damn, i wish i had paid attention when they came about". fucking amazing stuff, i heard Blood in Our Wells and Forgotten Legends, both of which knocked my socks off. much appreciation deserved.

toggletoggle post by HUNTERHUNTER   at Aug 20,2007 10:46am
forgotten legends duh

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Aug 20,2007 10:46am
i think the reason i overlooked them was because of Battlefront 2. the name reminds me of "droideka" and i fucking hate droidekas. almost as much as Bothan spies.

oops, legends.

"Songs of Grief & Solitude" is killer, too. Although I do remember napping in the living room to that on repeat when my girlfriend walked into the room and gave me the mother of all "what the fuck are you listening to?" looks. Apparently people in the real world don't sit around and listen to Ukranian folk music in their spare time.

I've been listening to Songs of Grief & Solitude on repeat lately. Can't stop/won't stop.

Damn I forgot about Astrofaes. Amazing band aside from their lyrical themes. This kind of music is like the Glenn Beck of Black Metal.

black metal isn't supposed to be liberal, faggot. go back to listening to wolves in the throne room if you want drudkh wannabe hipster cocksmoking blackmetal, faggot

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Oct 7,2010 10:32am
the one that hasn't impressed me so far is The Swan Road. it has some ok pieces but as a whole it's lacking quite a bit. i haven't heard any of the new ones yet.

toggletoggle post by Slag NLI at Oct 7,2010 10:35am
I haven't listened to The Swan Road yet. New ones are pretty excellent. I really only just started listening to Songs of Grief and Solitude. It's perfect fall music and completely amazing.

Only the first two albums are real.
Tootles.

No, I've just recently ventured into another plane of existence ; a collective conscious energy which appears overflowing throughout the universe. As the space-time continuum began to bend around me, I've only really began to understand the meaning of reality. I have come back as Aril the White.

It's the best to zone out to. Especially during that winter depression.

Well you might be weird, but having those on that playlist does not make you weird. You should add Oneiric Realm to those lists. ;-)

I'll post a serious critique on Drudkh and their progression,, I guess.
First and foremost, their first release was somewhat anticipated, as they had made their mark with hate forest and astrofaes. When Forgotten Legends came out, it immediately became a favorite of mine. It was a fresh sound to Burzum worship and atmospheric black metal. The drone and feel they carried with that album was unmatched when it came out.
When Autumn Aurora came out, I thought it was an incredible follow up that was better than FL. It is one of those instant classics - a necessity to listen to during autumn. I had extremely high hopes for Drudkh's future after FL and AA. It was around this time that Drudkh started getting really popular on the file sharing networks and myspace. I believe they had 12+ unofficial myspaces at one point. They basiclly became an overnight phenom in black metal, with all due respect.
To me, the only album they've done that briefly touches the essence of their first two albums is Blood in Our Wells - a great album but slightly different nonetheless.
They started to experiment a little bit more (nothing wrong with that), which, IMO led to them losing the essence they once had.
The last two albums have been a little different, still good, but its just not the Drudkh that I loved. I understand bands change overtime and shit, but I honestly don't feel too excited about this band anymore.
My 2 cents.

Cool story bro

Yeah new one is different. It's not the same.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Oct 7,2010 6:02pm
Honestly, I was going to type much more but realized there's no point.
Bottom line = band lost their flavor. Band is still good, but nothing spectacular. Time to bring back Hate Forest.

actually I'm a communist, and I created what is now considered the true black metal sound.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Oct 8,2010 7:16am
i have yet to hear anything after "Songs of Grief and Solitude" but i don't anticipate being blown away. i'll probably like some songs, but as Jim pointed out nothing will capture the magic of the first albums. Though i think Blood In Our Wells is just as magical.

toggletoggle post by arktouros at Oct 8,2010 9:43am
Forgotten Legends and Autumn Aurora are true classics. "Eternal Turn of the Wheel" is the best picture painted with 2 chords ever. Most of Microcosm wasn't a huge departure from their old sound, but their new album is pretty gay in comparison. The atmosphere is totally different which is the original reason I got into the band. Everything they do, I eat up regardless.

toggletoggle post by Slag NLI at Oct 22,2010 9:36am
I've said it about 10 times in the last few weeks, but "Wind of the Night Forests" is on my top 10 best songs of all time. Song is an orgasm sock.

I don't believe smoking weed/quitting smoking weed causes this drastic behavioral change in most people. You're just getting old dude!

The Swan Road is fantastic on vinyl.

Blood of Kingu anyone?

Listening to Blood in Our Wells right now, actually.

This band is more boring than watching 3 chipped topaz pieces being smelted into another bigger topaz.

toggletoggle post by illegalliusBM at Jun 12,2012 4:42pm
Not knowing what 3 chipped topaz smelts into is failtroll, therefore I can't arrest you for trolling on the grounds that you did not really troll.

toggletoggle post by Edward_Twizzlerhands at Jun 12,2012 10:45pm
Autumn Aurora and Microcosmos are my favorites although I tend to think the band as a whole is a bit overrated.

The closing track on Entrangement is fucking awesome... but the other 3 songs suck dick.

The rest of their discography is pretty hit or miss. They tend to blur the line between repetition and atmosphere quite often, and their more recent "progressive" attempts rub me the wrong way.

toggletoggle post by arktouros at Jun 13,2012 10:27am
i've listened to the newest one, "eternal turn of the wheel", a few times. overall it's pretty damn weak. very bland, colorless, and the worst part is for all the good production, the guitars are toneless and flat. the album itself is a return to form with faster and heavier parts than "handful of stars" but ultimately the songs go nowhere. in fact it's my least favorite album by them, i'm still floored by all their other ones. their song that they named the new album after that was on "forgotten legends" is so much better
