Just wondering if anyone has any good settings to play around with.

Just seeing what other people like to sound like.

Im at

Low 7
Mid 3.5
Hi 6
Res 8
Pre 8.5

If you take a good overdrive or metal distortion pedal with the gain on 0 and run it in front of the 6505 with your normal settings/distortion it will give you a nice little distortion boost and you can get some wicked sounds out of it.

believe it or not, if you take a metalzone with the gain all the way down and all the other knobs at 12 oclock it will make your amp rip.

I used a Tube Screamer with my 5150 (same as the 6506 basically)...

My settings are roughly:

Gain: 7
Low:6.5
Mids:4
High: 6.5
Res: 5
Pres: 8.5

Gain at 4.5 or so
Bass at 6
Mid half way up
highs halfway up also
presence and resonance at 6
Clean boost it or use an X2N and you should get decent tone depending on your cab. I use my gflex I am trying to sell with those settings and it sounds great.

We used a 6505 for one of the guitar tracks on the Summon the Spawn CD. Those things rip. I don't remember the settings though.

The distortion pedal makes that big of a difference?

toggletoggle post by blue nli at Feb 19,2008 12:50pm
were not talking throwing any shitbox distortion pedal, its best if you use a smoother more organic OVERDRIVE like a tubescreamer or something like that. Put it in front of the amp, gain 0 level 10 tone to taste. This technique Is called "boosting" and is fairly common among high gain users. Like nicc said, you can do it with all sorts of dirt pedals(cannibal corpse uses modded metal zones) but certain overdrive yields best results.

toggletoggle post by Jr5spd at Feb 19,2008 1:24pm
hrm... I'll look into it. Thanks for the input

toggletoggle post by Frank Shamrock at Feb 19,2008 1:36pm
The Digitech Bad Monkey is actually a great, cheap option. It's basically a tube screamer at half the price. Plus it has two tone controls (some find the tube screamer flubbs out the low end).

Blue, I usualy have my gain on the tubescreamer at like 5 or 6...should I not do that?

Also when you say 'in front' of the amp, you mean through the effects loop or just 'normal'...

the traditional way of boosting is with very low gain and high output on the pedal. i would bring the gain on your TS down to 0 or 1ish, youll get a lot more of the amp's character that way too. i would imagine using that much gain on the pedal would make some insane hiss through the amp.

Also when you say 'in front' of the amp, you mean through the effects loop or just 'normal'...

i mean no effects loop, guitar -> TS -> amp

toggletoggle post by Kinslayer at Feb 19,2008 4:16pm
Yeah, there's a bit of hiss...

I'll turn it down. I use an Aural Xciter too but I may get rid of that...

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Feb 19,2008 4:29pm
the aural exciter is cool, but just get your TS modded so you can get rid of it.

the aural exciter is trying to make up for the fact that your stock TS kills the bass.

toggletoggle post by Joshtruction   at Feb 19,2008 4:42pm
i can mod the TS ;) Hell I can even build you a completely custom one.

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Feb 19,2008 4:47pm
there you go!

toggletoggle post by Kinslayer at Feb 19,2008 4:48pm
Josh, mod mine for me...how much and how long?

toggletoggle post by Joshtruction   at Feb 19,2008 4:49pm
time day or two, price depends on what you want done.

toggletoggle post by Kinslayer at Feb 19,2008 4:50pm
I dunno...hey, Blue; what do I want done? hahah

toggletoggle post by Joshtruction   at Feb 19,2008 4:53pm
I can tkae care of it. 25 bucks and it's done

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Feb 19,2008 4:58pm
josh knows exactly what hes doing. hell make sure the TS doesnt suck your bass and will make it a lot more transparent (thats what you want).

toggletoggle post by Joshtruction   at Feb 19,2008 5:04pm
I'll clean it up, ditch the mid hump, and get her sounding good.

toggletoggle post by Kinslayer at Feb 19,2008 5:24pm
Badical...

How much will this cost me?

toggletoggle post by Joshtruction   at Feb 19,2008 5:56pm
I live in dartmouth, had one car stolen from me, and the other I pretty much got beat for. It would probably have to be a delivery or meet up at a show we are both at some time.

toggletoggle post by Kinslayer at Feb 19,2008 6:07pm
Okay...

What show are you going to next? I'll FedEx it and you can bring it to me if you're going to the MOD(panzerBastard) we're playing...
