This pretty much sums up my feelings on the subject; most people who like Morbid Angel and want to go to their shows want to see them play with other metal bands. I don't want to go to one of their shows and feel like I'm in a dance club for 3 hours before Morbid Angel takes the stage.

Its not that metal fans are closed minded; I'm sure most of them (myself included) can at least appreciate and respect industrial/electronic/techno music as an art form, its just that most of them aren't so interested in listening to it.

i can't blame him for wanting to involve the music he's obviously grown to enjoy later on.

I'm a fan of ambient and (unconventional) electronic music so I wouldn't be opposed to the idea. Just as long as the music being performed by the non-metal artist's possess dark qualities.

I like the his point about ego and whatnot, a lot of metal guys won't give any other music a chance. But honestly, I think a mixed show like that wouldn't be too good, usually metal dudes go to metal shows to hear metal.

I dont think a tour with the berzerker would be out of the question.. a dj, i can see if they could really fit the bill and make some crazy sounds..

Knowing stuff about ancient myths or the satanic bible doesn't make one open minded. Not saying it makes you close minded though.

Oh, and listening to European "folk" or Wagner doesn't make you open minded. Most will never try middle eastern or even african or flamenco, ect.

When it comes to music, Metal community... not very open minded.

Bottom line is people will like what they like. You should always broaden your horizons and try different things as a musician. If people dig what you do, then sweet. If they don't then move on. The point is to do what you want to do, play what you want to play and there will be fans there to support you. Its when people start calling things out as trendy, or gay, or this that and the other thing that really ruins everything this music genre has. Just sit back, shut up, listen to what you want to and support the people who make the music you love.

As much as I love metal, and have for years, I could never limit myself to just one particular genre of music.

Neither could I. It in our nature as musicians to hear certain things within music that other people may not. Its also in our nature to try different things and to explore our boundaries. This ties in to limiting ourselves to one style of music. If we all did that, and had no apparent inspiration within our music everything would be bland and boring. So really when it comes down to it its our own love of listening and learning new things from varying styles and genres that gives us the ability to do things different.

Remember him for that if nothing else.

Actually the "Squealing Pig" in Mission Hill does the same sort of thing sometimes. Boarcorpse played there on a spin kick Monday (metal/kung fu on a projection screen) and then after us a DJ that played something similar to what Trey is suggesting. I didn't know what to call him, but it was really heavy electronic music. I dug it.

This isn't about having an open mind about music in my oppinion. It's more about Trey Azagthoth lack of interest in supporting other bands who play the style of music that has payed his bills for 20 years. I can't blame his record label or a promoter for not backing this tour. Why doesn't he use his own money for this failing trek.
