I never really got into this band all that much. Doom had an okay song or two, and Genesis was full of boring mediocrity. The new song they put up is, IMO, 100% better than anything they've done this far. I know this band gets a lot of shit on here, but I think some people might actually dig the new stuff.

Well, I can't say it sucks but it seems like JFAC, Impending Doom and Whitechapel are all trying to sound like each other these days and countless local bands are following suit all over the country.

I seriously can NOT believe the blind elitism on this board. So many great bands and people are automatically dismissed without being given an actual legitimate chance. Bashing the bands of your friends for the sole sake of looking cool because it's always cool to bash on the next wave of music. NEW MUSIC ISN'T TR00. NEW MUSIC ISN'T BR00TAL. MUSIC ISN'T WHAT IT USED TO BE. for example i tried telling one of my black metal elitist friends that the new abigail williams was really good, and also coincidentally had trym playing drums on it. he automatically dismissed them as deathcore faggots, before even listening to it. They aren't even fucking close to deathcore! they're friends with the bands so they're affiliated with the scene, but that doesn't mean they actually play that shit.


Art is a reflection of the times, and music is art. meaning, music changes, constantly, and it's going to start changing even faster, as society and technology starts moving faster as well.

Popularity doesn't mean selling out! A lot of bands do sell out to get popular, but that doesn't mean it's also the other way around.

I'm not saying they're my favorite band by a long stretch, they aren't.

if death metal becomes the next "scene" thing, what will everyone here do? how will you distinguish between "real" deathmetal and "poser" death metal? What kind of clothes the band happens to be wearing? what kind of haircut they have? what tuning they're in? what equipment they're using? whether they "ree" or not?

hate to break it to you, but this is just as judgemental and bad as the mainstream that metal has resisted for the past 30-40 some odd years.

Look how far metal has come since the days of black sabbath. I'm sure they had no idea just how fast, heavy, experimental and intelligent the genre could get, and as of now i think we still have NO idea where the genre will lead us. You don't have to be afraid to like and embrace new music, you don't have to drop your old favorite band either.

good music will survive, bad music will survive. too many bands today.

since their genesis album (which i listened to a couple times, didn't quite grab me) job for a cowboy have been solid modern death metal. before that doesn't count - they played deathcore to get shows. and that's the type of thing that many people will not respect them and their music for.

me, i really don't care. i love music. i love heavy music. i love metal. i enjoy all it's subgenres, there's good, original bands in every one of them, and terrible bands too. metal has both the best and the worst bands in the world. but i've never heard a deathcore band i like, because every single band in that category is a homogeneous mixture of uninspired riffs and gratuitous wankery. but JFAC to me is decent death metal, but i think there's a lot better death metal out there than JFAC, so i don't really ever take the time to digest them. i love The Red Chord, so obviously i'm not an elitist or genre-lumping here.

i hate musical elitists too. art elitist - that's a bad personality type. whenever i talk to them, i call them out on it. but they have some reason (unfounded as it is) to think that way. the truth is, all those "scene" bands and the types of bands that would play a certain style of music for anything else than the sake of the art (i'm looking at you iwrestledabearonce) usually suck. so based on that they instantly think it sucks, and they lump JFAC into this category. but if anything, JFAC is a good thing because they play straight death metal, and it WILL get kids to look for their influences. my first death metal band was Lamb of God.


i'm not in the business of looking at pictures of bands to see if i'll like them, i don't even like watching too many videos. i don't care what haircuts they have. i don't care what costumes they have unless it adds to the show. bottom line, if your singer can't sing, if your lyrics were written by a 10-year-old, if you insert gratuitous breakdowns to hide the fact that you have no rhythm, if you can't compose, then you play bad music. hope you can sleep at night.
