i love how they make these ridiculous statements about how "the economy is showing signs of improving". you can't say the economy is improving due to a positive fluctuation in new home sales in a certain month. improvement statistics will take time to show, because next month there might be a sharp decline in home sales, so would they make a statement that "the economy is showing signs of failing again"? no.
