"Norwegian black metal band Dimmu Borgir has officially confirmed the departures of both Vortex (bass) and Mustis (keyboards). The group has issued the following:

Love 'em or hate 'em, I think the loss of Vortex is going to be a big deal. I loved In Sorte... and even though they're considered hot topic goth BM, I still enjoy them.

So where is Vortex going? I could certainly use him in some projects. hahaha

I enjoy their huge sound, and they have some great albums. I don't give a shit who wears their shirts...a lot of their keyboard melodies, especially on Enthrone Darkness, sound so much like a happy Disney movie soundtrack it's laughable. They have BM parts but add more clean vocals and you've got Nightwish.

seriously. i do like In Sorte Diaboli, but its definitely teetering on the edge of a total collapse. they absolutely sucked balls last time i saw them live. after Galder's last abomination i have no faith that they have any hope left. but i still love the older stuff, and recent stuff. except Stormblast 2, that should be cast into the pit of Carkoon.

and Shagrath needs to stop half-assing his vocals, he used to roar and shriek like a maniac, then he started doing the Abbath Popeye style and lost his flair.

So boring live. Was fortunate enough to be at Tuska where they were playing the main stage...and it turns out there are much better things to do in Helsinki.

they have been hit or miss, but the last few times have been nothing but miss. though one time in like 03 they played one of the best shows ever, and did pretty much exactly the setlist i would choose. they were awesome on the Death Cult Armageddon tour when they lost that fruity spacey look from Puritanical, Shagrath with his dress and frills. homo.

Mustis was a composer of fuck though. Some of my favorite Dimmu material is post-SBD because of the full orchestral pieces he would write to accompany the songs(or in some cases, the songs they would write to accompany his compositions).

Vortex is definitely a bigger, more noticeable void though. Who the fuck is going to sing Insight and the Catharsis now?

I don't hate him for being in Dimmu. Old Dimmu is sick; I'm not afraid to admit it. I just like busting his balls for sounding like Kermit on The Archaic Course. His vocals are solid on Evacuation Code Deciphered, which was the only track off Sideshow Symphonies that was actually killer.

Dimmu should get Mortiis and his silly Troll outfit for keyboards. Then they can add rave beats.
