What a piece of garbage this song is. After initially hating Death Magnetic (like all rational folk), I'd eventually heard bits and pieces of things that sort of reminded me of Puppets and gave me a sliver of hope that there was something left here worth salvaging. The End of the Line, however, smashes that hope and befouls the corpse. This POS drives it home that Metallica no longer has any idea how to write a song. It sounds less like the ruthless machine that gave us Damage Inc. and more like a band that routinely kicks ass at high school battles of the band. Like an improv garage band, bouncing from one half-explored idea fragment to the next, it's pure riff salad - the sound of a band adrift in the studio, artistically bankrupt, bereft of meaning and without merit. Every couple of years or so, someone says something along the lines of "wow, did you hear the new Metallica, they're sort of going back to their roots".
In each case, I never get my hopes up, because it's never, ever true. |
|
Music aside, the lyrics and vocals are so horrendous, no one in their right mind could take them seriously. Guilty pleasure but I sort of dig "All Nightmare Long". |
|
haha i knew this song sucked without hearing it |

GOING BACK TO OUR ROOTSAH

Death Magnetic has some quality songs on it. Cyanide, That Was Just Your Life, and Suicide&Redemption(though it is unnecessarily long. Seriously, 10 minutes of groove? Fuck.). And ads saying "We're goign back to our original sound" or "HEAVIER THAN EVER" is always a fuckin' lie. "More experimentation" usually just means longer and more pointless songs. "Heavier" means more breakdowns and chugs(not necessarily bad for me, but still). "Going back to our roots" = Throwing in one song that sounds like it came from one of their classic albums. |

I'd rather listen to Load/Reload again than suffer one more song off this album. |

Load was an incredible rock album that was ruined and poorly rated due to the fact that it was written/performed by Metallica. |

ahem. lol @ u. This band has sucked for 2 decades. Even the 13 year old DYA still living in your subconscious flipping through pages of Hit Parader should know that it is 100% impossible to expect a band full of dudes pushing 50 to make up for 20 years of being the U2 of metal. Shit Tyrone, get it together. |

Cool way to steal your own riffs, bro. The opening riff was totally lifted from Eye of the Beholder. What the hell is wrong with this band? |
|
If stealing your own riffs is a problem, tell that to Napalm Death. Tell me Breed To Breathe and Greed Killing don't sound alike, and you're hearing impaired, sir. Although they are most excellent songs, and I jam to them daily. |
|
I seriously just lol'd. Why would you bring up ND in reference to Metallica riffs? They play two completely different styles. The riff in Eye of the Beholder is pretty distinct and they blatantly rip themselves off because they've exhausted their songwriting skills. |

Point to be made: FUCK new Metallica |
