http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sortition

I've been meaning to read more about it. Personally I think it is far superior to voting.

Why? I don't see how it is different from a general election in any way. It has all of the same problems.

I mean towards electing reps. The advantages are that anyone who wants to be a rep has the chance, whereas now you need tons of money and party connections to even be considered.

i mean most Americans are middle class yet most politicians are wealthy elites. How is that representative of us?

Funny you say that, local government is mostly middle class, and effects your life alot more directly than the president.

Most people are stupid or don't care enough to properly execute a representative position, this is a retarded idea. Do you really think that determining our representatives completely at random is better than what we have now? If so then I would submit you have a skewed worldview.

There are much better solutions to the problems of hegemonic political parties like: further campaign finance reform, reversing the Supreme Court's ruling on corporate contributions, eliminating the Electoral College, etc.

The jury process does this. A pool of citizens collectively decide judgement on how to apply law to an entity, which is different than representation for social policy, creating, or changing laws. The current election process needs reform, but there are too many disadvantages to morons with minority opinions in power.

well...this happens regardless of the electoral process i guess.

I agree that it may allow for a better demographic to be represented and would allow any old Joe to become an official of the USA... but at the same time... I don't want any old Joe to represent me.

I'm surrounded by fuckwits that haven't a clue to what I think is right.

Wouldn't work in today's society.
