Probably the most epic war movie I've ever seen in my life. Based off the Red Cliff battles which took place amidst the Chinese Civil War of 208-209 AD during the Han Dynasty. The most expensive Asian film ever made with an estimated budget of $80 million. The American Theatrical version is a solid 2.5 hours or so, but you can buy the full out 4 hour Asian edition on BluRay or DVD nowadays.
Lots of cool formations, insane naval fleets, wicked kung fu and all that classic Shakespearean irony and tragedy which seemingly embodies so much Asian cinema. No bullshit side plots or weird love story (unless the 4 hours version's got it), just a shit ton of strategy, sick weaponry, blood, fire and death.
NETFLIX IT.
