New site? Maybe some day.
No thread for this one, pretty sure I'll be making the drive down though... Anyone else? |
Hoping to make this instead of the matinee show in NH Saturday. Steel Assassin is great live. |
If I can get my car unstuck by tomorrow I am so there. |
saw raven back in the early 80s. meh. |
RAVEN totally fucking rips, they're in their 50s and will run circles around anyone, totally not kidding. It's unfortunate that their most widely-distributed stuff is the watered-down major label stuff - SO much (practically all) of their other stuff is devastating.
This past summer: http://youtu.be/uijLiaLUNoQ?hd=1
They get extra tough-points for Mark's inury - Early 2000s, the guy was crushed by an entire wall that fell on him at a construction site, nearly lost both of his legs, was told he'd never walk again. He's once again up and doing power-slides a'la early 80s. Even if you don't like their style, that's still way fucking metal. RAVEN kills. |
Is this really $20. Events page says $12. I was gonna go but I'm too fucking broke for $20. I gotta save up for Motorhead. |
$20 is from Club Hell's page, so I'd bet on that one... |
$20?? Yup, because Raven's doing the 'using the openers backline/drums' thing, so they arrive in an empty van with no roadies, play other people's equipment for 60 minutes and depart with their $2500. total cash-grab tour----LAME |
Ask Raven how much they're getting. No, really. Ask. |
I told you how much they're getting |
that sucks. My husbans playing this show and I gotta pay 20$? lame |
Is your last name Gallagher? |
Her husband is in a band that pays to play. |
Is this really pay to play? That would be stupid... I have no objections to giving RAVEN 20 bucks or them getting a $2500 guarantee though, I'm sure their expenses are not insignificant. |

LOL read a few posts up about their 'expenses' |
Ok, the nashua show is cancelled. I should have gone to this one. Oh well. |
I read that, I meant in a more general sense. I think these days they are doing their own albums and licensing them out for different territories. They're probably too arthritic for sleeping in a van to be a practical option. They're also probably taking a few days off from their day jobs. If they end the weekend with a few grand for the band fund and a few hundred in each of their pockets, I don't see that that makes it a total cash-grab. As long as the shows don't suck, they'll be earning it.
Plus they're fucking RAVEN! |
ZeroGods was kinda painful. Glen Benton look alike was spazzy and kinda annoying. Lots of fuck yous.
Skull hammer killed it despite pedal problems |
So how was it? Did they play anything off One For All? (not All For One, I'm talking about the '99 album, I liked that one, I'm sure they played all the usual hits)
Raven was fuckin AWESOME!
I'm kinda kicking myself for not discovering Raven before! |
They totally killed, though I was a little disappointed in the setlist - It was almost all "classics" with only one song from the new album (Breaking You Down) - Everything else they played was from the first few albums, all Wacko-era. This is a shame, because a lot of the Hasselvander stuff is FAR heavier / catchier / bludgeonier. John blew out his head at the end of the set, the final song (Crash Bang Whallop) was done with no bass. METAL. Nothing cash-grab about giving 100000% |
for fucks sake....Raven killed it. That may be my fav guitarist ever...so shithead but so good. No pedals and effects...no frills. Just one hundred percent badassery...i was laughin with joy and headbanging like a maniac at the same time...now im stuck at the 212 version of animal house i arlington |

ya except it wasn't his head that he blew, it was the opener's. wonder if the head's actual owner got taken care of on that? |

what the fuck do you have against raven? U mad bro? |
I have NOTHING against Raven, love the first 3 albums, HUGE influence on my band actually, etc etc
I just think its bullshit to run a tour the way they are, taking advantage of the local openers, over-charging their fans and walking away with all the money.
I don't care what band it is that does that, it's BS
I think it's bullshit and I'm saying so |
That wasn't the opener's head, it was John's setup, an opener's cab. |
Nope. It was John Gallgher's pre-amp through Phil's cab AND head. |
This was a great fucking show. So much energy from Raven. Nothing like watching some dudes your dad's age run around on stage playing "Athletic Rock."
Also: $20 isn't over charging your fans when you play a solid hour and half set on a Friday night. Band has been consistently active for 30+ years. Faggot Deicide probably asked for a higher guarantee than these guys. |
First band on NEAT records. All the credit to them. |
I hope the amp shit gets made right, but come on! Taking advantage of the locals?!?! I'm sure that if they hadn't been comfortable with playing for free and sharing backline, they could have chosen another show to play.
Plus equipment problems and other unexpected expenses are yet another reason why it's not unreasonable for a band to sometimes ask for more than their bare minimum travel expenses. I'm sure STEEL ASSASSIN would not turn down $2500 if it were offered. |

I thought TYGERS OF PAN TANG was first? Rock Until You Drop might have been the first full-length though...
Had a Heavy Metal sized hangover all day yesterday, so my memory is slightly addled, tell me if any of this is wrong:
Take Control
Live At The Inferno
All For One
Rock Until You Drop
Guitar solo
Mind Over Metal
Breaking You Down
Bass solo
For The Future
On And On
Medley: ?/Break The Chain/Black Sabbath/In For The Kill/Symptom Of The Universe/Break The Chain
Crash Bang Wallop
Does anyone remember what that first bit of the medley was? I wouldn't have minded some more new shit, "Walk Through Fire" or "Running Around In Circles" would have been cool... But it was my first time seeing RAVEN and fact is, their Neat-era shit will always be supreme. If anything, the set could have used another track or two from Wiped Out! |
Raven told the club that they needed to use the opener's backline or they would have to cancel--- just less than 7 days before the show. They came to the US with no cabs or drums to save money. But um, forgot to mention that while booking the tour. To dump that on a club/opening bands after the show is booked is lame. Why was the NH show cancelled just a day or two before the show?
I don't care what band you are!!! it's a shitty way to run a tour. you Raven super-fans can defend the band and talk about how great they are ... maybe it's management, booking agency, whatever... but's sketchy shit, all I'm saying.
Trust me I will let you know if Phil's cab/head is trashed AND if the band took care of it
Why was the NH show cancelled just a day or two before the show? |
Because the promoter was a class-act fuckup. |
I heard the NH promoter sucks little boys cocks at the arcade. |
But um, forgot to mention that while booking the tour. |
Well that puts it in a different light... |
No doubt Raven deserve a lot of respect for their longevity, historical signifigance, and tons of great music. No doubt the show was great and the hardcore were pleased. This tour set-up just reeks of a bad agency, manager, something. Band in an awkward position using others' equipment. Potential to damage the band's rep and tarnish their legacy. There, I'm done. |
First part of the medley included I Don't Need No Doctor.
Hoping that dude's amp is ok, looking forward to hearing what's up. |
Good ear, Niggerbag...
I forgot one myself, just recalled today:
Take Control
Live At The Inferno
All For One
Rock Until You Drop
Guitar solo
Mind Over Metal
Breaking You Down
Bass solo
Inquisitor (!!!)
For The Future
On And On
Medley: I Don't Need No Doctor/Break The Chain/Black Sabbath/In For The Kill/Symptom Of The Universe/Break The Chain
Crash Bang Wallop |
Update:
Saw the Steel Assassin guys at Motorhead last night. Both speakers in Phil's cab were blown. BUT all those guys had nothing but good things to say about the guys in Raven and the gig in general. |
