First album of 2011 to really grab my attention-
Bibio - Mind Bokeh
Part Boards of Canada electronic, part 70's elevator music and funk/electro and Part Michael Mcdonald and one of the most refreshing albums I've heard in a long time

NECROS CHRISTOS "Doom of the Occult"
Negative Plane "Stained Glass Revelations"

Morne "Asylum" I can see spending some time in the stereo. Disma, Mitochondrion, Aosoth, Vanhelgd, Vastum, Shining and Azarath are all phat but I need to spend more time with them. Inquisition was late 2010 if you wanna split cunt hairs. Looking forward to the Reveal, Saturnalia Temple and Invidious debuts and new Avichi, Craft and Cianide records. New Profanatica will thoroughly decimate buttdarts.

They have a unique approach to making every song sound similar. They kick ass, but they're a "time and place" band imo. I did like Everything Is Fire a lot better.

I listened to their album for the first time last name, and I've never heard a "hardcore" band that plays slow almost exclusively like that
thats their gimmick. its basically the same riffs and set ups as any other generic "hardcore" band... just slower. sort of like that one band that does the same exact thing as everyother band, but adds keyboards... or the band that does the same exact riffs as everyone else in the genre, but plays it in drop brown note so it sounds fresh and original. its lazy and awful.

i haven't paid much attention to anything new, but the new Anaal Nathrakh is killer. the new Exhumed is meh, it has some solid songs, but overall the riffs are pretty damn boring. so far the best thing released this year is Burzum - Fallen. however i am guessing that Absu - Abzu might take the cake, if it's as mind-boggling as the last album.
Unless Deathspell Omega pulls their usual sneaky pete and sneaks something out by year's end, the upcoming Leviathan or Absu will likely take the top position for me. Oh yeah, and the Nightbitch "Chainmaker" 7", Profanatica "Sickened by Holy Host" LP and Ipsissifuck "The Way of Descent"... because my dick, riffs and ego are just that big
Archgoat- Heavenly Vulva
Inquisition- Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm
Black Witchery- Inferno of Sacred Destruction
Disma- Towards the Megalith
Beherit- At the Devil's Studio 1990
Immolation- Providence
Abnormity- Irreversible Disintegration
40 Watt Sun - The Inside Room
Crowbar - Sever The Wicked Hand
Burzum - Fallen
Anaal Nathrakh - Passion
Anthrax - Worship Music
Benighted - Asylum Cave
Devin Townsend - Ghost and Deconstruction (Both are awesome and deserve this list)
Emery - We Do What We Want
Gorgasm - Orgy of Murder
Hate Eternal - Phoenix Among The Ashes
Origin - Entity
Jesu - Ascension
Obscura - Omnivium
Pagan's Mind - Heavenly Ecstasy
Symphony X - Iconoclast
Revocation - Chaos of Forms
Scale The Summit - The Collective
Vader - Welcome To The Morbid Reich
I'm surprised by all the love the 40 Watt Sun album is getting. I think it's great but I didn't expect many other people to care.

Beyond Creation is pure Necrophagist/Obscura/Quo Vadis worship. its still really good but i found myself going "oh this is totally ripped straight from *insert one of those band's albums here*" a lot. again... still good. just... yeah.
new Isole is amazing.
post by i_am_lazy at Nov 5,2011 11:47pm
I'm pretty thoroughly impressed with that Beyond Creation there. I don't know how I hadn't heard them sooner.

The Inquisition album came out last year. It's worth mentioning again this year.
High Spirits
Negative Plain
Ulcerate
Necros Christos
Nader Sadik (holy shit!)
Blut Aus Nord
Disma (holy shit x2!)
I need to hear the new Autopsy still and a whole mess of other things. Listening to this Elder LP now and its ruling me.

Yeah but this band is bass driven. None of those other bands come close to the power Forest has on this disc. Hail Quebec.

The latest Inquisition official US release date was Jan.18 011 but HHR had a certain amount of advance copies and digital promos available in late 010. NoColours and Icarus records release was late 010 in Europe and S.A.
Panopticon - Social Disservices. Un-fucking-believably good. I wanted to say the new klabautamann album but after multiple listens, it's missed the mark for me.

That BC track that BSV posted reminded me more of a more brutal Vehemence. I like it though, definitely enough cool riffs to remain interesting.
yeah I picked this up based on it being on A389, they've been killing it. Wasn't disappointed.
Seven Sisters of Sleep LP and Pharaoh 7" on A389 were great this year, too.

also, Noothgrush 2xLP of live radio recordings on SL could be reish of the year.

havn't really heard anything all the way through, but that Graveyard album was pretty decent.
Yeah, decent is a good way of putting it. Too many of this type of band get by on mediocrity these days. Decent songs, it's just that this style has been done to death, and much better.
I should hear those Blut Aus Nord albums. Of all the black metal bands I can think of, they are one of the select few bringing anything new and interesting to the table.

These lists are awesome. They are an amazing download guide.
I have been listening to new music nonstop for over a week. My commute comes to almost 4 hours a day on train and subway, so that opens a lot of time. By the new year I'll slap up my own useless 2 cents up here and then spend half of 2012 hunting everything down.
OK, adding more that I forgot, or I didn't hear until after my last post
Cloud Rat - Fever Dreams
Inside the Beehive - Drink Bleach; Live Forever
Deathrite - s/t
Defeatist - Tyranny of Decay
Curmudgeon - Human Ouroboros
Seven Sisters of Sleep - s/t
ACxDC - The Second Coming
Eddie Brock - Demo
Ultra//Negative - Finally, I'm At Peace
this thread is piling on the records. I have accepted a challenge to listen to as many albums as I can this month - for releases from 2011. I have listened to 60 so far. my long ass commute opens a lot of time.
Portrait and In Solitude put out decent albums. In Solitude are a little suspect, but they at least play real metal.
Manilla Road's newest is stellar. Argus is pretty decent.
Autopsy was disappointing and shitty despite all the hip young types being all about it. Listen to Mental Kingdom, faggots. This new shit sucked.
Deceased and Disma rendered all other death metal releases from 2011 irrelevant, but I still deleted them after two listens and never bought them, as all of those dudes are clearly past their creative peaks. Not bad, just old and weak sounding.
Everything else can fuck off. Too much shit metal being released. 60 albums in a month? Why the fuck bother, plenty of metal albums released when metal was still metal and not the hipster crap you faggots listen to.
Here's to less hip and shit metal coming out in 2012, and everything pre 1995 still ruling everything that will come out this year.
Deceased and Disma rendered all other death metal releases from 2011 irrelevant, but I still deleted them after two listens and never bought them, as all of those dudes are clearly past their creative peaks. Not bad, just old and weak sounding.
Disma have only released stuff since 2009.
The troll acknowledges that the Deceased have one of the best of the year, but then dislikes it because they are old and might not be considered hip.

No, just death metal is always a joke compared to real metal, Nancy. Best of the year isn't saying much when you're talking about death metal, and that has always been made best by kids barely out of puberty. All of you are either too young or too stupid to understand the very basics of metal 101.
If you are going to be a trend jumping faggot and listen to death metal, at least listen to the older stuff when these dudes were young and not a bunch of watered down garbage made by aging losers almost as sad as yourselves.
Ain't my cup of joe, but at least I can respect people who use their ears and not what the hype says. Making year end lists is for those who want to suck critic cock.
Some of that new Autopsy sounded as gay as My Dying Bride. Just go full faggot already and buy a Nightwish album.
If you're into finding new soundtracks to your nightly jerk off sessions with your autographed picture of Gaahl, keep it off of metal forums and go have a bakesale, you fucking women.
