Not sure of the practical implications yet but Fujifilm has developed an electro-acoustical film. It's a speaker. It's completely flat and thin. You can roll it up. It's supposedly 2-3x less lossy than a speaker with a paper diaphragm. And the same technology can be used to make flat microphonic pickups.

Kind of cool. Very Japanese in that it looks cool at a trade show but is more or less pointless for now.

i bought some "flat" speakers when i built my first PC, they were as novel as a trinitron CRT. they were total crap, just speaker wire glued to some cardboard. i'm sure these are a little better.
