So, I'm obviously in the wrong place for this, but I'm getting a little desperate. My girlfriend and I are moving in with her folks for a while to save up money for a house. The only catch is, we've gotta get rid of our two cats. Well, it's getting down to the wire (we've gotta move out by the 1st), and everyone who's agreed to take them has bailed. Ideally, we'd like to take them again within a year or two, but if it comes down to the choice between getting them in a home that wants to keep them, and dumping them in a shelter, than I'd choose the former.

They're two male cats, one's a 6 year old orange tabby, one's a 3 year old grey Maine coon mix. Both are fixed, and both have had their shots within the last year. Neither one has any behaviour problems worse than rubbing up on your shit a lot, and neither has any litter box problems. They're both affectionate as fuck, and we fucking hate to lose them, but having them right now is not an option.

If anybody's at all interested in taking one or both of them, for a year or two or for good, or if you know somebody else who might be, let me know, seriously. They're awesome cats, and I wanna find good home for them.

If I wasn't allergic to them, I'd probably be interested. I love cats but they make me miserable with itchy eyes and sneezing.

do they kill things and leave em on your doorstep?

They might if they were "outside" cats, but we live in Woonsocket, so if we let them outside they'd probably get eaten by crackheads.

Ha!! I will take that bet. I find dead animals that my cat kills at least 10 times a week and leaves them as a "present" on my doorstep. I woke up this morning and found a snake on my doorstep, ha!! Wonder what he will bring us for Xmas?

Damnit dude, my gf and I just adopted three cats last night. For real.

There should be an adoption shelter near you, just take them in if you can't find someone, they won't mind.

My husband won't let me have any more cats. Trust me, I've tried. If you DO have to take them to a shelter don't worry much, they have a lot that are really nice places for cats now. They have big rooms with cat jungle gyms and shit.

I currently live in that shithole also, and would gladly take on more cats if I didn't already have 3...and one was an "accident". You seriously don't want your cats ending up in any shelter around here my friend, all of the no-kill shelters are constantly so full there's a year-long waiting list or so, and the Woonsocket animal shelter is a fucking dump, not to mention they put healthy animals to sleep. I rescued a kitten (now about 13 pounds) from there about a year ago, he was stuffed into a cage with 5 other cats he wasn't related to, and it was disgusting...he wasn't even wormed, and had no shots.

Yeah, I've seen it, no thanks. If it comes down to it, I'll find a town shelter somewhere else.

Sounds like you are killing it with food. 13 pounds? You know cats can get diabetes right?

Yes, 13 pounds, and there's no fat on him. I've got another male and he's a bit over 13 pounds. Actually every male cat I've had has been around 13 pounds...now if they were 22 pounds there would be a problem...

toggletoggle post by ariavette at Oct 24,2006 12:56pm
#2.. b/c getting cats fixed is fucking expensive

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Oct 24,2006 1:00pm
yeah it fucking sucks cause i would love to have a cat. i cant even go to Andy's house because of it. i am dreading that party because i'm going to die from his cats.

toggletoggle post by ariavette at Oct 24,2006 1:01pm
there's a bunch of stuff the doctors can give you to hold off the side effects of allergies from cats.. even if temporary you'll make it through the night

toggletoggle post by ariavette at Oct 24,2006 1:03pm
or claritin.. something over the counter like that would work

If you can't afford to care for animals properly, don't have them.
