So I just ordered this model and i was wondering if anyone that is familiar with it could tell me of any problems/tips for using it. As far as maybe which parts i should get backups of (I break pedals like its my job) Or maybe the best way to set it up. I guess i should also say that i got the electronic conversion kit for both of the pedals. (Triggers that actually mount on the pedal NOT on the head.) Anywho i am thrilled to be getting this, i have played on the DW9000 for about a year and its cool, but i want to have the triggers on the pedal, the idea of no crosstalk/doubletriggering/misfiring is real sexy.


So any tips/advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey man, I use an A longboard double on the kit in my space and they are great pedals but they do have a few drawbacks. The biggest problem is with the E-KIT triggers, they work really great because once they are set the rarely mistrigger but they some of the least durable pieces of equipment I've ever bought. I took the Axis to ONE gig and one of the little hammers that actually sets off the trigger broke off and since Axis is a reasonably small company getting replacement parts takes quite a while. The pedals themselves are amazingly smooth and durable though. Unfortunately adjusting things like beater angle and spring tension for the slave pedal can be a little less than user friendly. One of the best things about these pedals is with the stock springs they are really smooth with high spring tension and the direct drive (instead of strap or chain) is really smooth. They will take some getting used to though, going from a strap or chain drive pedal to the direct drive will feel weird at first, give it time though you'll get used to it. can't play with these pedals...no power

thanks hivesmashermatt.... i guess i will buy some replacement e-kit triggers in advance so that if they break i wont be screwed. as far as not needing my bass drum, i will keep a pair of heavier beaters around for anytime i am not playing deathmetal (strangly i do so often) so really i guess there is no need for it while playing metal, but any good drummer isnt limited to just one style/genre.

I used to have an Axis A single. I currently use a Gibraltar Intruder direct drive single. I will never play Axis again because, like Moe said, they have ZERO power. Max spring tension and the beaters as far back as possible still = no power. It's all about personal preference, but these pedals may border on TOO smooth. Too smooth do much more than tap the kick head.

The Trick pedals are very intriguing. When a bunch of money falls into my wallet, like when my tax money comes, I might just have to buy one.

well, heading everyone's advice i will keep around my dw9000, which isnt that shabby itself, and if it doesnt work out with the axis at least i will still have the 9000.

Yeah i def. wouldnt sell it. I really like the 9000. It has a lot of good points. I just wanna try all my options... Its nice to have options. Especially when you break pedals as much as i do. Lets see...
I have Broke: 3Iron Cobra pedals (One chain, Two belt)
1 Pearl Power Shifter (older model)
1 Gibralter cheepo (piece o' shit)
1 DW 9000 (I broke the joint that connects the arm to the slave pedal)
AND within not too long I assume, i will have to buy replacement axis parts..


Now i know this sounds crazy, like "what the fuck is he doing that keeps breaking pedals, he must be doing something wrong."
But in reality, its a matter of just playing all the time, playing a lot of double bass excercises every day, and having really big heavy feet. (size 14wide) It's all worth it though. Drumming is life.

I've had my longboards for about 3 years now. Great pedals, but they will take some getting used to. Having extra e-kit detonators around is a good idea. I have broken quiet a few of them. If you had a second kick drum a broke your pedals into 2 singles, then you wouldn't have any problems with ekits. Aside from the detonators breaking, I haven't had a single problem with the pedals.

which model do you have poppy? I know its probably the exact same pedal as the normal one but i paid 20 bucks more for the black finish. Gotta look as evil as possible with my sparkly purple drumset....... As a lame sidenote, i got a call last night from interstate music saying that they have to build the pedal i ordered and it will be 2-4weeks before it shows up. fucking lame

..........and since there is a wait, maybe i will order the ekit backups now....

So I have 2 bass drums, one with the DW9000 pedal that Jimbo had and one with an Iron Cobra. I use massive beaters. The other night at practice the heel hinge on the DW pedal snapped and separated right from the footplate. I've never seen anything like it - the metal split at it's weakest part where it attaches to the hinge and now the pedal is useless.

I want independent Axis A Longboards for each kick, but I'm concerned about the loss of power. The ability to fit the EKIT triggers on the pedals is a good option and I want to be able to make use of those, but if I can't hammer the fuck out of my bass drum with these then I'm not sure I want them. If I attach large beaters to them, does that make a difference, or does the drive just not have enough leverage on these to make a hard impact?

Jimboar, time is running out, I might have to come down and play your pedals next week. I know you fit them with large beaters for the Tool band and get good strength out of them but I want to play it to make sure, before I blow $500 on these pedals. Just want to make sure they can be customized to my liking to play with triggers and full strength.

i was checking out that new pearl demon pedal or whatever it's called at GC the other day. seems just like a axis but with more power. didn't have time to play with the spring tension. Seemed awesome though. $650 is kinda rugged.

jon, i've broken a three pedals that way. If josh would weld it for ya it would definately work again.

And as far as the demon pedal vs. the axis, you can set the axis to have as much power as you want, it's just that most people who buy it only do so that they CAN use as little energy as possible.

tim uses them as well and he gets great power. at least i believe its that same model.
the new pearl pedal is a direct drive version of the eliminator. i like the eliminator better.

I will go to bat for the axis' power any day, I get a ton from them (but I am into tight springs and beaters set waaaay back).
