Here's one for you guys:
I heard the new Slipknot was 'extreme' and my girlfriend(ex?) showed me it yesterday. I listened to it out of curiousity and it sounds like a mix between death metal and Hatebreed. Blastbeats and solos and everything. Haha, listen to it if you dare.

i'm a closet slipknot fan - last album was garbage though. I'll give this a shot later.

toggletoggle post by mOe  at Jul 15,2008 12:05pm
I'll be honest...this actually isnt bad for them

toggletoggle post by archaeon at Jul 15,2008 12:13pm
only a matter of time before they start the bree

toggletoggle post by cav nli at Jul 15,2008 12:25pm
fuck that shit

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 15,2008 12:27pm
Wow, solos! That surprised me. This is really good for them, probably some of the best stuff they've written. However, I don't know if I like it. I used to dig Slipknot because they brought death metal to Nu-metal, not the other way around.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 15,2008 12:28pm
Vocals/lyrics are still really really gay, as usual. However on this song they're also WAY TOO LOUD.

toggletoggle post by cav nli at Jul 15,2008 12:28pm
fuck slipknot. fuck nu metal. fuck anyone that tries to be metal now that metal is cool and trendy.

And fuck people that are so anti trend that they make stupid comments like that.

You're free to dislike them, but slipknot have "tried to be metal" since day one. This is just a better attempt. Actually listen to the track next time, it still sounds like cliche slipknot nu-metal. It's not like some abrupt change.

toggletoggle post by thegreatspaldino   at Jul 15,2008 12:35pm
yeah pretty much. they blasted and hatebreed slammed back on iowa or whatever.

toggletoggle post by cav nli at Jul 15,2008 12:35pm
ive never heard slipknot on record. i saw them live and thought it was a terrible gimmick. i didnt hear much musically cus it was outside at ozzfest. ive always hated numetal, always will no matter how "metal" it is. i actually like a lot of shit thats popular and i listen to the least obscure bands out of all of my friends. i just fuckin hate nu metal. haha.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Jul 15,2008 12:36pm
i hate people that like metal. wait no...i hate people.

toggletoggle post by mOe  at Jul 15,2008 12:36pm
yea, I dont see this as rediculous or out of left field for this band...there's plenty of blast beats, double bass, and breakdowns/grooves on their first major label record.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Jul 15,2008 12:38pm
i think the self-titled is great, but everything post is garbage. they wrote the worst build-up-to-kick-in in the history of music in that song Duality. when he says "I PUSH MY FINGERS INTO MY" it has potential to lead into something explosive, but instead it pussies out into that whining "EYYYYES". gay.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Jul 15,2008 12:46pm
Iowa had some great tunes on it. "I am Hated" gets stuck in my head randomly all the time

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 15,2008 1:04pm
The whole reason I liked Slipknot in 99, when the self titled came out, was for everything that this song is not.

The beer kegs, samples, extra bass drums, and listenable slight chaos, was what was different about them.
This just sounds like another thing youll hear on waaf. I am a little impressed, but not suprised.

The gang vox are decent tho.
The solos....not so much, lol. But hey, theyre trying!

toggletoggle post by aril at Jul 15,2008 1:05pm
MFKR is better

You see I can respect people like Slipknot for the music. I'm not a fan but when someone can substantiate why they like a certain type of music, I'm all for it. I'm 100% completely against all the Slipknot fans who follow the whole Slipknot aesthetic and change their lives into shitbaskets because of one band they listen to.

people do that with Black metal too. its got nothing to do with the music more the mentality of the douchebags that listen to it.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 15,2008 1:35pm
The black metal juggalo, if you will?

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Jul 15,2008 1:36pm
haha

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 15,2008 1:46pm
Hahaha I love looking up random black metal bands on Metal Archives just to look at the picture of the band. It's really sad what this world has come to. We need to go back to feudal times when everyone was killed off by common colds, wars, and dragons.

toggletoggle post by aril at Jul 15,2008 1:46pm
I think it's safe to say that just about every type of metal has its trendy followers. BlackMetal has a good portion of them - especially the "better than thou" ones who boast about the latest EP they picked up from a place like Liechtenstein or any other obscure stuff. It's nice to have that stuff, but when you use it in a way to make yourself feel better about yourself, then you are a fool. Some of the worst are the Moonblood followers, who claim Moonblood is the best band ever.
But anyway, I see no difference in trendy followers of any type of music; just be yourself, and get off your fucking high horses.
/end rant

I love getting publicly stoned.

you like being buried up to your neck and having people lob rocks at you until your head is completely indiscernible from its former shape?

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Jul 15,2008 2:00pm
Can't listen at work, but death metal + Hatebreed surely = FAIL.

i have a friend is is wicked into this band. he bought their original 4 song demo on ebay years ago. It's really good. sounds pretty much nothing like any of their major label releases.

toggletoggle post by aril at Jul 15,2008 2:59pm
well, MFKR was a really strange album. it was like Mr. Bungle at parts. I thought it was unique when I heard it, so I like it.
I wonder if the demo sounds like that?

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Jul 15,2008 3:01pm
i finally just remembered what MFKR stands for. haha ya that is great piece of music. havent heard it in probably 6 or 7 years

toggletoggle post by MUSHROOMHEAD at Jul 15,2008 3:16pm

haha oh man that makes me nauseous. "true black metal, not that gay shit like Emperor and Burzum".

toggletoggle post by josh_hates_you  at Jul 15,2008 3:20pm
yeah mr. bungle ish. but heavy. maybe it was said mfkr record. i don't know im not a fan of the band and burn away most of my memory.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 15,2008 4:17pm
ya, the demo is mate feed kill repeat (mfkr), and has nothing on bungle.

toggletoggle post by BlackoutRick at Jul 15,2008 7:00pm
Slipknot kicks ass live.

toggletoggle post by Pires at Jul 15,2008 7:02pm
Joey Jordison (the drummer) is actually really good, despite the rap this band gets. I used to really like them, back in high school, but kind of forgot about this band. Still. Can't deny Joey's talents. As far as the song goes, MEH. I'll still not listen to this band.

toggletoggle post by tylor at Jul 15,2008 7:53pm
alot of the parts sound like animosity/some of the slammy metalcore that's coming out these days, but the vocals suck and mixed way too high. oh and that chorus was gay as anything too

just adding the solos and blastbeats dont make the song good, and slipknot has done that before. i dont listen to them anymore, but they were one of the first heavy bands i listened to, so i wont shit on them

why do people bring up skill as any sort of argument? i could care less either way but thats like saying its ok for a football team to lose 16 games because they have a great wide receiver.

dont mattah.

jordison isnt that amazing. seriously. i can list like 30 bands off of the top of my head that have way better drummers.
