Special Event
Boston Premiere!
Until The Light Takes Us
at 7:30pm

($10 Discount tickets available at the door for Seniors, Brattle Members, and Students w/valid ID. No passes.)

(2009) dir Aaron Aites, Audrey Ewell, w/ Gylve Nagell, Varg Vikernes, Jan Axel Blomberg [93 min]
Until the Light Takes Us is a documentary about black metal: an ideological movement/music genre comprised of musicians, murderers, church-burners, and suicide victims. The film examines the birth and explosive arc of black metal through the eyes of the scene’s leaders, who tried to change the world using music and symbolic acts of violence. Part post-modern art movement, part terrorist movement, and part rock scene, the film tells a story unlike any other.

Tickets can be purchased at www.brattlefilm.org

Oops, this is on Saturday, August 1st

i'm considering going, but i don't know if i want to spend my Saturday watching a biased documentary surrounded by hipsters.

Everything's biased. Filmmakers seem sane to me:

Very much anticipating this.

It's true. EVERYTHING'S biased. I still wanna see this... Yeti, you really thinking about going? Maybe we could make a group trip outta it.

after reading the interview i'm more interested in going, i don't want to see a recap of Lords of Chaos, and that doesn't seem like what it is. i hope its as objective as its made out to be, i know everything is biased, i just mean whether its slanderous to Varg or something. i'll most likely attend.

Apparently it provides Varg more with a platform to speak his mind, allowing him to explain his version of the events. Lords of Chaos was a crock of shit.

I might go see this for a second time. Don't worry about bias, it's just a cool doc.

It should be interesting to hear what he has to say, after all these years. People can say what they want about him, but the fact remains that he was but one young man who forged an entirely new sound in a burgeoning genre. Musically, Vikernes was a leader and not a follower.

I just ate lots of food and it made me tired.

toggletoggle post by jaskillx at Aug 2,2009 12:44am
did anyone go to this?

toggletoggle post by MikeOv at Aug 2,2009 3:14am
I did, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It was awesome to see the marjority people wearing band shirts consisted of Mayhem, Burzum and Darkthrone. I, myself, was wearing a Filosofem shirt.

toggletoggle post by jaskillx at Aug 2,2009 11:55am
how does it compare to Lords of Chaos?

toggletoggle post by MikeOv at Aug 2,2009 2:19pm
Lords of Chaos is a joke to me, so I'd obviously say this was better. I'm looking forward to the dvd of UtLTU, which will contain a lot of the cut footage they couldn't use in the theatrical release. There's a lot of interviews they conducted, which weren't included.

Anyone else notice that the beer at the Brattle has a slight popcorn butter flavor? Kinda wretched at first, but it started growing on me towards the end of the movie.

Nah, I wanted to appear tr00, so I left mine at home.

I also forgot the Brattle serves beer, but I'm glad I watched it sober anyway.

LMAO
I think lords of chaos it's good enough to get you started if you're not familiar with the history/world/life behind black metal music.
Can't wait to see this movie. Too bad they only played it one time only
