Alright. What are you playing and why do you love it?
Dream guitar?

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Apr 22,2004 12:05am
my main guitar is an esp ltd m300 and a bc rich warlock supreme with a drop sonic in it. my backup is a jackson ps3t rhoades. The esp rocks because of the neck thru sustain and its gorgeous maple top. the pickups are emghz which are pretty good for stock pickups, and better than the crap jackson and bc rich stock p/u's.
dream guitar is a neck thru us warlock with a reverse old style headstock, real floyd, emgs, sustainiac, and custom desert camo finish.

I have an Ibanez explorer copy. I love it cause it gets the job done. I don't really have a dream guitar, but I guess a PRS Custom 24 would be pretty sweet.

what year is the jackson?

bc riches are garbage. unless you're custom ordering a 1000000000 dollar guitar, thats probably the worst thing you could get. they're fucking hidious too.
PRS guitars are overrated as well. they're ok, but hardly worth all the money they cost. if you're going to drop that much money on a guitar get a music man.

i have an esp baritone guitar that is a hunk of shit. i'm either going to trade it in for my new head, or smash it at aganihms last show.
i also have an ibanez joe satriani 100 with emg 85s. it's nice, i like thin necks on guitars, and it's light which is another plus. i hate heavy guitars. the floyd rose is kind of a pain, but it's not to bad, i'd rather a kohler tremelo thingy(er, whatever, i dont remember how it's spelled)

my dream guitar would probably be a really fancy wide thin neck ibanez with the kohler shit, or that fucking custom esp deicide guitar i posted back a while ago.
or a fucking NICE fender strat with emg's in it, i love how strats play but hate how they sound, at least for metal. the dude from cryptopsy plays a strat.

I play a 1989 Carvin DC125, that somebody put a Jackson logo on (Carvins had the Jackson-style headstock at the time), with a Duncan Custom Custom in the bridge.

Dream guitar would be either a new DC125 or an Abyss Supercut.

I'm currently switching between three guitars, it's all dependant on my mood I guess. My favorite sounding guitar is my 1981 Ibanez Destroyer II, it's amazing and it's in it's original state. I also use my Gibson SG Custom (1978 I think) that's got 3 humbuckers in it, it's my first guitar that I got when I was 14 and it plays like a dream. The sound isn't quite where it should be for our style though so I don't use it all that much. My third axe is a newer model Ibanez Iceman, I put new pickups in it so it sounds great, it's light weight and easy to play, fixed bridge and all, really comfortable.

My dream guitar? I'm not sure, I really like the original Mockingbird's, those are pretty dope. I think if I threw some EMGs in my SG that might be my dream guitar. Which brings me to my next question, does anyone know how the typical 3 humbucker setup works? I'm kinda retarded when it comes to wiring and stuff and I've never really figured out how all three of them are working. It's got the standard gibson 4 knobs, 3 way switch but I can't figure out what position is activating which pickups.

toggletoggle post by retzam at Apr 22,2004 8:21am
Iceman eh?? That is a pretty cheap guitar if I remember correctly, sounds like a good deal. My friend (has) had his eye on that for a while, liked the shape of the body a lot (I don't really dig it though). How did the stock pick-ups sound on it?

Also, I was wondering, does anyone have or has anyone played an Omen 6?? The same friend I just mentioned went to guitar center and started playing one of these things and he says he really loves it. They look pretty sleek too. I kind of want to try one out.

toggletoggle post by Siberia   at Apr 22,2004 8:29am
Yeah, the Iceman is the cheaper priced guitar. The stock pickups sounded okay but the manufacturing quality was junk. After just a few live shows during the summer both pu's shit the bed. I brought it my cousin to take a look at and he said that the sweat from playing had "infected" the pickups and burned them out. He said they could be re wound but it'd be a better deal to get new ones. Overall, I love the guitar but it's not the best quality, I've been spoiled with my Gibson.

My main guitar:
eppiphone lespaul custom quiltop
I play this becuase my gibson les paul double cutaway was stolen when someone broke into my house and when I deciding to go buy a new gibson I played this eppiphone and saw, felt, heard no difference than a gibson les paul single cutaway and decided to invest the rest of the money in other gear I also like the paint job, -very unique-

otherwise I play an ibanez rg 370- nothing special has a good crunch and you can throw the thing aorund without it going out of tune

Had a 1960's hondo reformed with a gibson pickups, I took the logo off and revarnished the headstock, I also replaced all the pots and hardware, great guitar - but I traded it for some drum stuff

I had owned a bc rich mockingbird at one point that was given to me by a relative- it fucking sucked
fuck bc rich, theyre shitty, heavy and they look stupid

if I was to get a new guitar Id go for a jackson mh300 or something like that, Ive been looking into getting a new guitar for a few months but I havnt seized the oportune

toggletoggle post by Siberia   at Apr 22,2004 10:57am
Yo Exhumed, that Mockingbird you had, was it an old Jap one or the US made ones? I hear the old Jap ones (early 80's) are really good quality, maybe I'm just outta my head though?!?!?

it was an older mockingbird.... I hated it, it was uncomfortable to play standing up, it sounded OK (just ok), weighed about 50lbs. and looked rediculous, I hate bc rich mainly becuase of their weight and style, sound counts, but seriously those guitars are crap compare to any other company besides maybe rogue and whatever other cheap no name guitar makers are out there

toggletoggle post by abhorred  at Apr 22,2004 2:31pm
haha.....bc rich hate party.....i play a cheap warlock which dosent sound that great but i like the body.....it will do for now since i just layed down a shit load of money on my les paul custom black beauty....love it, best guitar i have ever played....i also have a les paul studio double cutaway.....

I hear that! There's something about the Gibson SGs that's just awesome, I can't pinpoint it but they're easily my favorite guitars. I need to put new pickups in mine!

toggletoggle post by WhyamIandasshole   at Apr 22,2004 5:01pm
84 Gibson Flying V, no pickguard and 2 EMG 81's. Plays like a dream, sustain and tone for days and it looks badass.

86 Gibson Les Paul Custom with EMG 81 in the bridge and the Gibson Alnico or the 58 in the neck I'm not sure which. Same reason as above.

toggletoggle post by The_ExhumeD  at Apr 22,2004 5:40pm
if you own an Sg you have to get rid of the stock pickups, the necks are a litle too thick in the back and flat on the top for me though, Im sticking to the pauls

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Apr 22,2004 5:47pm

My feelings too, my SG is Cherry Red with the oversized pickguard (white) and gold hardware. Beautiful guitar but........

Not so metal.....

my les paul is pretty fucking metal, I wouldnt be playing a guitar that sounded like shit for what Im doing. Idealy they may not be the easiest guitar to set up for b or c but it can be done and theres just something about that tone, I have the custom stock pickups in mine - I once traded the bridge for an emg and ended up taking it out becuase the stocks sounded better. I wish I could get a picture up... anyhow the pickups are not nickel plated CRAP,

toggletoggle post by Hoser at Apr 23,2004 11:42am
Ok my rig rules, and here it is:

My main guitar is a 2003 Jackson Soloist SL-1 USA made with an EMG-81 in the bridge and all the rest of the pickups and shit disconnected, original Floyd Rose trem.

My back-up is a 2000 ESP LTD MH-300 with an EMG-81 in the bridge.

Both neck-thru's, both kick ass. The EMG-81 is the greatest pickup on Earth....fucking screams.

These are my guitars gentlemen.

toggletoggle post by Siberian at Apr 23,2004 11:59am
My SG definitely needs new pickups, or needs to be rewired. It's a custom job and I have no clue what's even in there for pickups. I'm not familiar at all with the 3 humbucker setup on a three way toggle switch. I know they aren't running independently, but I'm not sure how they're setup. Do you think if I threw one EMG-81 in there and disconnected the rest I'd be alright?

toggletoggle post by The_ExhumeD  at Apr 24,2004 10:00am
if all three pickups are not running independently your tone is most likely going to be pretty muddy anyway you fuck with your knobs.
what I would do is before putting the emg in Id disconnect the third pickup and have the bridge and neck pickups running on a three way toggle it might increase the edge of your guitar, The only way I play my les paul is on the treb pickup maxed with the treb knob maxed all the way. I seldomly use a combination unless if Im playing clean.
anyhow give it a try the emg didnt work out in my case and I ended up switching the pickups back in,.

bernardo rico, the founder of bcrich, was a mexican luthier who hired a man by the name of Neal moser who design the bcrich bick, seagul, he also designed active electronics, 10 string guiytars, the badass and kahler quad fixed bridges, the 8 string bass, indirectly the warlock, and has been building guitars since the 60's.
I normally don't say much when it comes down to equi[tment on this site because not alot of you know much about guitars and specifically luthiers (no offense) but please, the next time you insult something in vein, inform yourself. ESP, Jackson, and even gibson are heavily influenced by bcrich and it's luthiers like neal moser and even Ken patin from worchester mass(he founded yavcon guitars, check out yavcon.com) you may not like his shapes, but his laminating is among the finest in the world and he works for Neal (check out mosercustomshop.com)

I sugest the next time you say an entire company sucks when the only guitars you have played by them are 300$ imports made by korean children, you at least try brodening your horizons by playing an actual handmade piece designed by the most innovative men in the world.
I am in the process of writing a quote to Neal for an archtop baritone that will be inlayed in obsidian(quickly cooled lava) no person with the ability to lazer cut hardened lava and put it on a guitar. tell me thats the work of a crappy guitar company.
and also calling them crappy when they designed every single feature on two of the guitars you mentioned above is a little ignorant. ESP has been copying bcrich and moser for years, as have ibanez and jackson. go to thier japanese sites or russian sites (espguitars.net, espguitars.co.ru) and you will notice how many more guitars they have across seas. it's because they steal thier designs and can only sell where US copywrite laws don't aply.

and for the rest of you. imports suck.
My dream guitar (and I am in the process of having it built) is an ESP horizon II custom with a tonepros bridge and x2n dimarzio pickups. pearl inlaying around the neck, body, and headstock, imperial tuners, ebony fretboard, AAAAA quilt maple top with a seethru blue sunburst and zero heel.

The omen 6 is identicle to the ESP LTD MH series, but what do you expect, ESP and schecter are the same company. they play like any other import. BC Rich custom shop guitars very rarely exceed 2 grand.
BCRich guitars were only made in japan for about three years when they were owned by a company called class axe... they were thre first bcr imports and were made in nayoga japan to be exact. other than that, they were all made in korea, along with jackson, ibanez, esp, schecter, and most other guitars except kept the import name 'NJ' series. They are currently owned by HHI inc and make a much different guitar than the older mockingbird you played.
and gibson is crap because they will take two identicle guitars, cut right form the same tree with the exact same specs but charge drastic differences because it has someones name on it. esp is guity of the same thing.

anything else clear up can I?

toggletoggle post by Niccolai   at Apr 24,2004 8:33pm edited Apr 24,2004 8:38pm
I wouldn't say that....

It just really agrivates me how our entire generation is about to lose the fine knowlage if the instrament because of companies like ESP who mass produce 600 guitars each year for 200$ across seas at the expense of quality. It's rediculis that 90% of you will never even come in contact with a fully handmade guitar and that makes me mad, I couldn't possably go over all the fundimentals of dos and don't in guitar building in one thread, but hell, maybe I'll make a thread.
I have been building and studying guitars for a while. although talking to Ken Patin, Neal Moser, Grover Jackson, and a few other builders, I a still nothing compared to them. I am currently building a guitar based on the same idea as Pat obriens v (the guy from cannibal corpse) one of our friends by the name of lurch drew out a sketch on a napkin at a bar and both me, a friend Karl, and pat wanted one and all went about builfing it different ways. Pats was just finnished, keep an eye out for it the next time you go to see cannibal corpse. my version ofd Lurch's 'demon v' is almost ready for pain and will be available shortly.
