There's nothing I enjoy more than a computer trojan causing havoc on my system. I really do enjoy restarting 400 times, fighting with antivirus software, and playing hide n' go seek with Task Manager.

I think I picked it up from last.fm, so fair warning. Java launched when I went there, and shit happened immediately after that. A trojan which claims it's an antivirus program pops up which then prevents any other .exe files from running, at all. This includes task manager and other system functions. You can't do anything but hardware restart. What you CAN do, is immediately when windows launches, open task manager and stop the two bad processes from running before they prevent you from doing so.

Ad-aware didnt find them. Kaspersky doesn't find them, but it did flag one for suspicious activity. They both resided in the Local Settings/App Data folder. I found neither filename listed on the net anywhere so it makes me think it just gives itself a random filename. I trashed both and I seem to be a-ok again, but it did some damage, some programs won't run now (I suspect the NET framework, I'm going to reinstall that later).

Just venting frustration, and yes I know LOL windows.

I think I dealt with this one a few times at my old job...try "rkill" to eliminate its process then try to run malware bytes after that (because it sometimes blocks malware bytes from installing and running)

av.exe.

it duplicates itself in a temp folder when you think it's gone.
superantispyware picks it up.

and that's what you get for using last.fm

hmm. Yea, there's so many tricky Trojans now.
what happened the the peacful days of the Internet where one could go to a website and not worry about such shenanigans?

At least this one I managed (I think) to recover from. The only other time I've had a virus it destroyed everything. Maybe this one would've too if I let it keep going.

I dunno if it uses java or not, but java launched outside the browser, that's when I knew shit was not good
