New site? Maybe some day.

watain got some stiff competition for black metal of the year |
This album would be flawless if the drums had the DEPTH they did on Death and The Black Work (one of THE BEST USBM albums)...the compressed trigger pitch detracts from the experience a bit. The atmosphere that Nightbringer achieves continues to amaze. |
saw them live in the woods/mountains of colorado a few years back. I need to attened another gathering of shadows before they stop doing it. |
Agreed. Always a huge fan of Nightbribger's atmosphere. Wanted to go to the gathering of shadows in CO a few years back but couldn't. Andrewbastard went..that bastard! |
haha didn't see you post that when I posted about it. |

dude come on. New Watain is ok but not THAT good. |
Yeah, repeated listenings have diminished that intoxicating "leaked album" smell. Nightbringer continues to throttle my cock to 12 o'clock. If you want a side of majesty to go with your fuck, check out Dodsengel "Mirium Occultum". |
But for the record, I like the big choruses on that Watain. Shit is like black metal Dokken. Needs more "Mr. Scary" leads though. |
There's a couple redeeming songs on the new Watain, I'm listening now...and I really dig deep on Cassus Luciferi...but fuck if it doesn't sound like a faggoth circus compared to the almighty Nightbringer. I hate to compare the two but I just did. |
New Ondskapt kinda leaves me cold. Not a fraction as good as their previous records. |
agreed. I'd say the same for watertain. Watering down their material.
Honestly, my biggest complaint was the production in watains new album. I just didn't think it fit their sound that wel. But then again, we all have different opinions; it's what makes the world go 'round. |
Their demo is the best thing they ever did. |
That's too often the case :( |
After repeated listens I have come to conclude that the new Watain is OK...It has some decent parts and I like the Bathory throw back parts ... Lotta hype ...
New Nightbringer sounds interesting... I liked the first one |
New Inquisition will probably crush everything. Ever. Jewish Prophets, especially. |
love ondskapt...havent heard anything new from them in years though. Ill look into it... |
Prepare to be underwhelmed. In other disconcerting news, Ofermod are total fucking junkie hacks who fail miserably live. |
last katharsis i heard i really liked...krucifixxion or something? |
the problem with all the orthodox bands is that they now believe their own hype. Ondskapt, Ofermod, and Watain all have reputations in Europe for total arrogance to both their promoters and fans - and in the former cases, coupled with under-rehearsed "epic fail" performances.
There's some of this with Watain, too. I was at their first U.S. show (Minneapolis MN, w/Nachtmystium before Angel Corpse jumped on the tour). As default headliner, they played for 20 or so minutes and then ditched the stage because the crowd was too small (circa 25 people tops).
It's this attitude that produces a "black metal will be reborn...when we release a pop Bathory-worship album"-attitude. And yes, it sells. Same as what happened with Von, really...
Dodsengel "Mirium Occultum" wastes every bm release thus far this year. I'll be amazed (and very pleased) if anything tops it. |
Morbid Angel tapped into these same concepts long before any of these bands
They also blow the fucking doors off any one of them musicianship wise... Not ahhhh one of them can even come remotely close... HYPE indeed |
Watain at MDF with all their props and mystique ultimately delivered a basement punk show until they did the Bathory cover imho.
patiently awating the Death and the Black Work vinyl box in the mail. |
Their newest album is evil as fuck |
Consistent, but no song shall ever match "Feast of the Manes" |
