A nuclear blast would cause enough ask, sand, dust, dirt, etc to be cast into the stratosphere to cause some weather pattern issues. Several blasts could disrupt our local weather, and even the weather of the entire US and possibly Mexico. So really blasting them with nukes would just be asking for our food and resources to be contaminated and or killed off. Not worth it if you ask me. (from the book "Nuclear Winter" published 1985.
