I checked out DoomRiders, and i must admit i was impressed...impressed that so much fucking generic crap keeps coming out of the "boston scene". How many more bands have to sound like Motorhead meets ______ ?

toggletoggle post by whiskey_weed_and_women  at Jan 8,2005 3:28am
umm where was the Motorhead i guess i missed that part of their sound !

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Jan 8,2005 3:48am
... i like motorhead

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Jan 8,2005 1:57pm
up for motorhead.

toggletoggle post by the taste of cigarettes at Jan 8,2005 4:06pm
that first track on www.convergecult.com has a motorhead feel. The vocals are very lemmy-esque. The whole "rock n roll + ________ (insert metal, hardcore, punk, or indie rock here)" thing is getting old, in my mind. The second track isn't blowing me away either.

basically, Ian Mackaye was right when he said Hardcore died after 83. Too many bands sounding the same...who the hell is writing songs to express themselves? IT's all "let's be genre X and play Y music"

toggletoggle post by whiskey_weed_and_women  at Jan 8,2005 4:11pm edited Jan 8,2005 4:11pm
umm actually it's just pretty good skater punk, i think you're just taking to that next level of who gives a fuck.

and as much as i love Motorhead i still don't feel it, Godflesh sure.
motorhead no !

Lemmy would throw his mole at you !

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Jan 8,2005 4:19pm
theyre not moles, theyre cocoa puffs.

toggletoggle post by the taste of cigarettes at Jan 8,2005 4:27pm
All of Jake's projects have been dope. Nate's stuff always sounds like other bands. He has incredible stage presence and is a great bassist, but I think he makes lukewarm band choices. Old Man Gloom is great but who is going to deny how close they sound to Isis?

toggletoggle post by whiskey_weed_and_women  at Jan 8,2005 4:52pm
well gee they only have Aaron Turner in the band !

i'm just saying it's Godflesh mixed with skater punk, can't go wrong there !

my Dad is from Canada, and the stereo typical canadian accent that faggots in hollywood try to make fun of is more prevelant in some of the mid-western states then actually in Canada.

In Nova Scotia people just sound like violent racists.

I agree, most shit is played out. But not everything. I can't grade the Phoenix scene, or the Newark scene, or the Atlanta scene. I can just speak for the one right over the river, and man, if one more band "sounds like JFA" or "sounds like (insert old school hardcore / punk / new wave band name here)" I am going to retch.

$10 = 2 touring bands, one from Canada one from Chicago + 2 awesome local bands that will make you cry with deelight + room that holds 175 people in "prime real estate" area

seems like a good, even price to me. the overhead at the middle east is intense.

last monday, at the swingin' party put on by Jon "P-Diddy" Dwyer, Anne Armageddon was spotted talking to her new beau, Christraper. Said Anne, "He's the best catch I've had since my brief fling with Blue 'Brad Pitt' Kubrick"

Where have all the good men gone? To ManRay, of course! Shawn, Brian, and Kyle of Throwing Shrapnel were seen leaving ManRay's eponimous "Campus" night after a rousing evening of sex and candy. The deep growls? The permeating sneer of distortion tinged guitar lines? "It's all just for show," says Shawn, formerly of Tasty Buttocks, "Our real passion is doing pig piles with the thirty or forty nude men."

But where does that leave the current state of hardcore? "Wide open for a randy good time!" says Jim of Bane of Existence, "I've been looking for a something to do with myself when I'm not trying to pet the cat 'the wrong way.' You know the expression, 'How many members of Bane of Existence does it take to get wild with Bleeding Through?'" Jim looks at this reporter with a wink and a slight nod, "Just one, when his friends aren't around!"

Yet, fine readers, one can't help but wonder where the rumor mill will strike next.

Especially when Heavy Rotation is changing its name to...HEAVY FLOTATION?? That's right. Jessica Smith of HR is now the proud owner of a baby dolphin. "When it comes to pets," says Jessica next to a 1700-gallon pool, "I don't goof around!"

TTOS - We had a lot of fun ... the CD they gave us needs a good deal of fine tuning, and I think something was wrong with the kick mic cause I hear no kick on this, but heard it live...maybe i am missing something? People were awesome in the audience, great turnout, everyone gets a personalized high five next tiem they see me!!!

Raising Kubrick - Splendid as always. Sound from the PA was a bit muddy but man they sounded brutal. Everyone was super.

The End - Oh I WILL see this band again. Fucking great. Everyone needs to see them. Brilliant shit. Some of the chord shapes they use are like WHA?!?!? Not as "core" as you'd imagine...a lot of intergrity to what they do.

Dead to Fall - I wasn't impressed, but people had fun. I dunnow...too much like...everything else. Still they got the crowd going, so that's cool..

A good time!!! Joe wins this round.

Yay, fun show!

I had to laugh through Dead to Fall's entire set... it was a very non-Joe show. But the turnout was killer and everyone had a good time. Drink tickets rule!! I have pictures but I'm in no condition to upload them now.

everything was great at that show... till dead to fall played

... but thats not my cup of tea

Kubrick tore it up once again, I had a great time rockin my brains out. and I know the general consensus on dead to fall wasn't great, but I thoroughly enjoyed there set, but then again...it is my cup of tea. to each his own i suppose, g'night.

pretty cool show. saw lots of cool mofo's. Tim was bugging me to go to this all month, and I did, but he didn't. That's because his gf's grandfather died or something..anyways. I took pictures, I'll try to get them up asap.

arrived at 8:30 and thought I would have missed TOS, but apparently the doors didn't even open until 9.

TOS: I think they played one new song, sounded pretty cool. I always think rowan is going to eat me alive.

Kubrick: came on with a lot of energy with the full force of that beast moe. blue was sporting a porphyria shirt, holy crap. chris was twirling his dong, i mean hair. sarah was lovely in the most brutal way possible.

The End: never really checked these guys out before, but they were pretty good live. A little bit like ion dissonance. 2 people told me they were boring as hell, and the other 2 told me they were good.

said my goodbye's and made the trek back to maine. So no pictures of DTF, but I'm sure they aren't my bag, I have heard them before. Evan's not even drumming for them anymore, so bleh.

ps. I think I only saw joe once during this entire show..and it was during the end....I probably should have stayed just to see his expression of dead to fall. heh.

The End were fucking amazing when I saw them a few days ago. There were some tracks I'd rather have heard last friday but that's ok. They'll be coming around a few more times. Extremely brilliant band.

Awesome show! I saw TTOS in Bellingham and sort of liked them but they won me last night. I'm now a fan. RK was awesome as usual. I would have paid 10 bucks just to see them. I had to leave during The End because it was almost midnight on a Monday and blah blah blah but they were really good. It looked like a good turnout to me, but I don't know how the Middle East works money wise. I hope it all worked out for the bands.

i was gonna go to this and looking forward to it all week and the my ride bails on me. so i was pretty pissed cause i wanted to see the end so bad.

I had a good time, I've only seen the Taste of Silver once before (at o'briens) and I liked them alot better this time. What they do reminds me of what Conifer does, only mixed with grind instead of doom. Parts of their stuff goes towards screamo and that doesn't really like me, but the rest of their stuff likes me. I got the new EP.

Raising Kubrick played pretty good, the first few songs were lacking bass, but it seemed to correct itself somewhere during their set, maybe when kris headbutted the wall. I was hoping for a new song because I know they have been writing. It was awesome to see the crowd participation for vertical talking, and the other tunes as well.

I was impressed with The End, I have their CD from Relapse and listened to a couple of tunes and I think their live set does them more justice, but I plan to listen to that again. Canadians always hold a special place in my hear as it is. These guys were really cool people too. I think I may try to make it to the Feb. 11th show even though I have no idea who those other bands are that they are playing with.

Dead to Fall was the worst band I ever booked, over homogenized breakdown after overhomogenized breakdown. Alot of people seemed to be into them, which is cool, but bands like them do nothing for me. A fight broke during their set, which totally sucked, and everyone moshing kept nailing everyone who was just hanging out, and the middle east is so small that there was nowhere for those people to go. I was forced to apologize to the middle east for that band, who apparantly were total pricks to the middle east staff the entire night. Everytime they had a cool riff forming that you could almost get into, BAM!, another breakdown took it away.

I don't think I can risk booking another tour like this because the Middle East stressed to me like 10 times about no moshing and I cannot afford to lose places to book at, particularly the Middle East.

Go see The End on Feb 11th.

no moshing, you can thank all the guy's at cannae shows punching random people including girls.

i don't know who that jackass with dead to fall was, but he cranked me in the leg and now i'm limping around campus like a fucking gimp. i think the same kid threw a roundhouse at my friend and knocked him flat on his ass. i hate that fucking hardcore dance bullshit. GAH.

toggletoggle post by timma at Feb 1,2005 11:40am
p.s. not dissing hardcore, just uneccessary acts of attempted mosh.

joe, you havent heard dead to fall before you booked them? they are a cookie cutter metalcore band. manufactured musick for the dance floor.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Feb 1,2005 12:32pm
dead to fall brought a shitload of kids and money in the door for your show dude, so i wouldnt be complaining too much about them.

That doesn't help him if he winds up losing the Middle East as a venue to book shows.

That is exactly why I hate most metalcore. If those bands didn't get a boner from watching their friends "dance it up" the music would be a lot better.

i thought The Taste of Silver and Kubrick played amazingly. for two bands that ive seen and played with before, i was still very much blown away. totally worth the ten dollars. the end i only barely caught, but i dont care. i love what they do musically but i hate the typically mediocre midrange hardcore screaming throughout every song. booorrrinng. the middle east was an awesome venue, and i look forward to seeing more NotCommon shows there.

this was a great show. we had such a blast. the taste of silver played one of the best sets theyve ever done. awesome. loving the new ep. i thought we had a good set, cept for the me falling back onto my shit. heh. we should be getting an mp3 or two from the show up on our site in the next few days. the end did a great set, and they were super cool guys, i guess they dug us as well. dead to fall (a band i like, sorry) did a good set, good mix of old and new. thanks to everyone for coming out and enjoying our set, you all made it one of our best shows yet. carina, sorry you couldnt come out last night, we were all hoping to see you. next time.

Subordinate Recording Artist .psychofagist. are in the vein of the Dillinger Escape Plan, Ion Dissonance & the Red Chord. check out mp3s from their last album at www.subordinate.it - or - www.psychofagist.com

--- NEW ALBUM OUT NOW ---

WEBZINE: Smother.net [USA] ----------------------------------------------
Italian grind maestros Psychofagists deliver an unrelenting aural assault that mixes chaotic tech-metal with grind's more predictable blast beats. Sort of like Agoraphobic Nosebleed went to bed with Dillinger Escape Plan's daughter and birthed an illegitimate child, Psychofagist is all over the map with completely unpredictable rage...

WEBZINE: DareDevil.de [GER] ---------------------------------------------
Yeeeeeeeeees...this is just what I need after coming home from f**ing work. I think Psychofagist have chosen the right name for their band, cause this is like Dillinger Escape Plan on Crack. Sick, but also really groovy and packed with insane breaks and blast beats. The voice goes a bit in the vein of Today Is The Day and Pig Destroyer. I also wondered about the quality of this stuff, cause itīs so fat and well produced....damn...I have nothing more to ad...you Grind freaks out there will have lots of fun with Psychofagist.
