so we asked about the pit, but what was the best show you've ever been to?

top 5
1) mogwai CMJ 97
2) NEMHF 00
3) magnetic fields 01 somerville
4) converge ICC 03
5) commit suicide 02 exit 23

ok, those are the ones that came up when I thought about it.

hypocrisy 2002
immortal 2002
dillinger escape plan 2002 at the axis
blind guardian and symphony x

no stupid hardcore kid fighting bullshit at any of those shows. they were great because i could enjoy the bands and dance without having to worry about getting kicked from behind on purpose like at dillinger and red chord at the upstairs stage at the palladium.

well if i had to pick a best show i know it might not be as high in some peoples lists but i was completely blown away when i saw tears of avarel for the second time at chicken little fest or whatever the fuck it was at right attitudes. those guys put on one of the best shows i have ever seen and still to this day i remain in awe of that band. i dont remember who else was on the bill, im sure iranach was, but i really only remember toa making me shit my pants. and i was glad to shit my pants...

haha no offense, but:
shadows fall - keene, nh 2002 (about 35 kids...what a ball)
was that with the guy with the dreadlocks?
he sucks

deftones - lowell, ma 2000
PHAT YO, the deftones are the most terribly generic nu-metal ever, yet for some reason they make fun of nu-metal, maybe they are mad that they are even less talented then disturbed and coal chamber

dillenger escape plan/red chord - worcester, ma 2002
if i have nothing nice to say then I won't say anything at all
oh too late

joe, you're very welcome to your own opinions. but i believe that the deftones have never been a "nu-metal" band. they happened to be coming up during the nu-metal boom, but they have been always doing their own thing. since 1989, they have been doing their own brand of highly emotional heavy music. they dont talk about how they had parents that didnt give them the presents they wanted, nor do they talk about all the other standard nu-metal topics (dad gropes kid, kid cries, etc.). nor have they ever decided to do the silly nu-metal mindless open string boring chug-a-lug. oh, and shadows fall owns, joe. sorry.

toggletoggle post by AllanHoldsworth   at Aug 28,2003 9:45pm
sure deftones are a joke. that's common knowledge. and even shadows fall, i don't mind if you knock them. but their dreaded singer, brian fair, is a good guy. he was in Overcast, the band that single-handedly created the metalcore genre (a gay genre, but still).

best 5 shows i've seen:

-hatebreed. september 1998 at the elvis room

-amorphis @ NEMF 2000

-meshuggah @ NEMF 2001

-meshuggah. oct 28, 2002. lowell, ma.

-meshuggah. may 24, 2003. new york city.

i don't care who knocks who, but i think brian fair is a cool dude. he supports metal and rock . i see him at a lot of shows, and despite the ozzfest appearances and popularity, he remains a down to earth guy. overcast was great. brian fair is a metal motherfucker

1: deftones are great. dont like them if you want but i think they're awesome and i dont give a shit if pop metal kids like them.

2: but you know who's worse than deftones? hatebreed. good lord that band makes me vomit with disgust.

3: eat me

anyone remember that metal fest a few yeats ago when hatebreed used to dress up like wiggers and jamie yell, "fuck metal! We're hatebreed!" And then the singer of anal cunt beats the shit out of him. Yeah... that was rad, and hatebreed kinda rock but now that much, plus theyre a bunch of tough guy fags.

I will rate my favorite shows based on drunken hilarity:

Anal Cunt/ Random Acts of Violence/ Cryptic Warning- 2001: Seth Putnam performed AC songs solo, playing guitar through a bass amp and singing through a practice PA with one speaker. Seth called me gay and then intimidated me for money after the show, and never did the reek of vodka from that man cease.

(Fuck you for taking the equipment away before the show was over, Alex Baker. Fuck you for life.)

Random Acts of Violence cd release party- M. East 2003

Kalibas- Obrien's 2002

Yes, I did drink Clamato. And I'm saddened to admit I enjoyed every drop of it. Where did that come from anyway? Was it some promotional gimmick from that TV show with Busey's son?

Yes, that's the one. I remember enjoying that pretty much... Although that enjoyment probably had more to do with my father who drunkenly watched it with me.
