you don't need the extra battery life on the D70. it takes 1500 shots on one battery. the power grip is queer and I highly do not recomend it. both carina and I have one for the D100 and she doesn't use hers. I only use it cause i spend the money on it. the back of the D70/100 aren't made for vg's. you will be forever cursing it cause there is no focus lock so you just end up holding it normally.
