TERRASTOCK is the official festival of internationally acclaimed underground music mag, The Ptolemaic Terrascope (now Terrascope Online), which has provided a voice to obscure, occult, mind-altering, and deeply heavy aural explorations since 1989. Since its inception in 1997, Terrastock has occurred five times, on both U.S. coasts and in Europe. The festival gathers musicians and fans from all over the world. The bill features a mix of big and small, wildly popular and completely obscure, old, new, noisy, and quiet.

This year's line-up of over 30 bands brings performers from four continents, including Japanese band Ghost (who will be making this their last U.S. performance "at least until Bush is out of office"), re-emerged 60's brit-folk icon Bridget St John, Paik, P.G. Six, Charalambides, Kemialliset Ystävät, Bardo Pond, Brothers of the Occult Sisterhood, Kinski, Lightning Bolt, and the elusive grand-daddy of psych folk himself: Tom Rapp of Pearls Before Swine.

So why are we telling you this? Because Terrastock is and has always been a just-eeked-out D.I.Y. happening and we need you to help us spread the word. This is a totally non-profit venture (the bands are not even paid!) but we must cover enormous airfare, travel and hotel expenses for over 150 performers, not to mention venue, sound and equipment needs. All of this comes from ticket sales and we need your help to get the word out and sell some tickets. Tell all your friends, or just come yourself!

We're also selling ads in our PROGRAM BOOK and we have tables available for VENDORS. We are very interested in sponsorship too. Please get in touch for more info!!

When: April 21-23
Where: Providence, RI, USA

"Terrastock and its audience are part of a necessary support system, because in a music business centered on the search for the next big thing, someone has to dig through record catalogues to discover the next good thing, or search the archives to rediscover the last lost thing." - New York Times

"A gathering of true believers, somehow combining the retro-obsessed nerdiness of a Star Trek Convention with the most open-minded and avant-garde elements of the indie rock underground, all gathered together under the genre-spanning umbrella of psychedelia." - MOCA Los Angeles

did you hear the Damon+Naomi w/Ghost album? It was pretty good, I wonder if I still own it

The cool thing about this is that some of these bands are as out there as the most obscure avant black metal. Total head music....

yeah I still have it

looks like this

By turns breathtakingly radiant and heartbreakingly melancholy, Damon and Naomi With Ghost finds these kindred spirits joining forces to make the most transcendent music of their respective careers; the two units' celestial acid folk sensibilities dovetail perfectly, illuminating their shared marriage of intensity and serenity to mesmerizing effect. With Ghost's Masaki Batoh essentially assuming the production duties so long held by longtime Damon and Naomi collaborator Kramer, Krukowski and Yang's dreamily contemplative songs strike a perfect balance between earthbound humanity and mystical otherness; the record is both comforting and challenging, its placid surfaces masking poignant meditations on resignation, dislocation, and loss. A profoundly spiritual thread weaves throughout the songs as well; from the Buddhist chants that underscore "The New World" to the Jewish lore that inspired "Judah and the Maccabees," this is sacred music for the new millennium.

I need to pick up some ghost CD's

Any word on who's playing what days?

toggletoggle post by ichabod  at Mar 6,2006 9:15am
Holy hot damn!!! This is the best show in this area in ages!!! I usually don't get too worked up 'bout any shows, but the fact that this is happening so close to home this year is amazing...I had to miss it the year it was in Cambridge and it's been way too far away every other time. Presley should be on this gig for sure, and I'll make sure that at the very least there's an ad for Ichabod in the program.

I wish

I would have no idea how to make that happen

Badsneakers, we're going down to the pre-Terrastock party/show the night before to talk to the dude about booking Sweet Leaf III down there, or at least to look at the venue(s) as a possibility. Join us and you'll meet Jeff from AS220 who'd be the one to get your stuff to. Contact me offline to discuss further...

hiya, i'm Jeffrey - i book AS220 and am also organizing this festival. the lineup for Terrastock has been set since last summer and there really is no room, at all, for additional acts, i'm sorry. if anyone wants to book other shows here, it's real easy - all of the booking info, my email, mailing address for demos, etc is on www.as220.org, click under - you guessed it - booking. re: Terrastock - i know its a hefty ticket, but this is a really important event for underground music, you know - 35 bands (!), many from overseas, and all of the money from ticket sales goes to paying airfare, hotels, NOBODY is making any profit from this, i can guarantee you that! if anybody can scrape together the loot to help support this thing, it's GREATLY appreciated. we need your support, if you can swing it. also, single day passes go on sale march 15th, if that helps ya.

It's all about Ghost, Windy and Carl, Avarus, Kemialliset Ystävät, and Pearls Before Swine! The lady and I are so there, it's completely worth the cash.
