New site? Maybe some day.
is it a politically correct way of saying emo?? |
The final phart after a huge dump. |
no way! not at all.
its all the noiswy or instrumental stuff mixing in spacerock/ slintrock.
a few bands
kylesa
irepress
of course its flowing back in to HC bands (in remembrance) |
there are tons of myspace bands...not to mention like every fucking BSR band is now calling themselves post-hardcore. I just don't get it. what a shitty name for a genre. |
they mean nu-metal there..
the term, from what I know came from when the move from punk to postpunk (killing joke, most early industrial, slint, etc..)
postpunk was just a way to say "these dudes look like they should be playing punk, but they arent." and the "punk" attitude lumps together a bunch of none-simlar bands that are a break down of the music theory of a genre. This break down is usually a tendancy froma simple music genre to either something more complex (lke mixing classical) or something totally noisey. Apply that to hardcore and bang! the post prefix is made. There are a lot of beutiful cs that come out. |
emo with breakdowns. Emocore. |
In the early 90s the term applied originally to bands like Hoover, Quicksand, Orange 9mm, Fugazi, Helmet, Into Another. Basically bands that were made up of previous members of hardcore bands that were trying some new sounds a little left from the center, but still showing the punk/hardcore roots.
It is used today to describe all kinds of shit, emo came later but a lot of those bands consider themselves post-hardcore, since they also stem from the punk/hardcore origins (bands like Piebald, etc). |

sounds about right.

I was hoping that dhth would come on with a good answer too. but he failed to mention slint so +2 points for me and -2 point for him. |
when I think post-hardcore, I think Built To Spill, Minus the Bear, Fugazi, and Casket Lottery.
essentially hardcore dudes playing not-so-hardcore stuff now
Kylesa is NOT post-hardcore. WTF?! |
post hardcore = Music for people that would get beat up at real hardcore show |
It's really goddamn simple...when hardcore kids really learn to play their instruments well, and hence get bored of the same tired chugga-chugga riffs and branch out from there. DrinkHardThrashHard nailed it with his description. Helmet, O9MM, Quicksand, Iceburn, etc. were huge influences on Ichabod when we were just getting started, that's for sure. |
B2S is not even close to post-hardcore. they are indie rock and naver were hardcore guys. it's doug fucking marsht. he looks like al from tool time.
kylesa is in fact, post hardcore. like other trash arty sounding bands. |
why would you consider Kylesa post-hardcore?
why wouldn't you consider them metal? |
post hardcore, the term, describes a sound. just because a band doesn't have members that were part of a traditional hardcore band, the band could still have a post-hardcore sound.
it's all rock, shut up. |

Gods damn you. But Ichabod stole 4 points with his Iceburn mention. |
I would say bands like Codeseven and This Day Forward are post-hardcore... |
