Oviously you guys aren't going to like the band, but I'm looking for production criticism.

They have kindof a back of tha neck / in our blood sound.

the recording is a rough mix, unmastered.

it should sound awesome once it is mastered....
the song sort of sounds like "thick as blood" from black my heart

for instance in the bridge where the one guitar is is on the left side i think the drums should be alittle bit clearer and maybe get the guitar to come through alittle bit more (get rid of the fuzz from the right guitar) which all can be fixed once mastered

that'll sound really great mastered. as it stands now it's still way better then my band's demo. haha.

I think I'm going to finnish the mix, then Mike Healey is problably going to master it.

The recording was free for the band. They practice at priority in Hanson, and if you rent there you get 7 free hours of recording time.

Luke was going to record them, but got into a fight with their guitarist and wouldn't record them anymore, he told them t get their own engineer, and I happened to be in the building so I got roped into it.

They wouldn't even buy me a drink for it haha.

From the sound of it, you didn't have to record them. If that's not the case, my apologies, but even if it came free, I'd try to throw something your way for the trouble.

sounds great, the one criticism i have is that the kick drum doesnt have enough of that 'click' to help it cut through.

my only criticism is that this band doesn't sound identical to Slapshot or Infest. Because - as I'm sure someone will eventually point out - every hardcore band ever should sound like Minor Threat.

Definitely not a fan of this style of "hardcore", but the recording is pretty excellent.

Also... Slapshot, Minor Threat and Infest sound nothing like each other.

Sounds good.

Try turning the cymbals down a cunt-hair, and tweaking up a little at 15k. It'll come across, but it'll sound a little less "dull".

The snare sound is good, but it needs some punch. Theres a million things you can do. Copy the track, and make an identical snare. Tweak the eq, add a little (LITTLE!) reverb, and mix it back in with the other track. Now tweak the eq of the original to accomodate it. (pull back the frequencies you boosted on the other track.

You've got a good, loud, and punchy recording. In my opinion, for hardcore, the guitars are a little muddy and the bass is really loud. It's a good mix, but listen to some old murphy's law or the first terror record.

As for your bass drum, if you make an effort to come to Plymouth and can mix down the bass track to a wav file I could probably resample it, and give you a sampled track to mix in with the original.

Sedate moved out of the old cafe upstairs and we found some of Gary's "collection" including a HUGE dildo (about 24" tall, as wide around as a football) and some print out sheets of this naked like 14 year old girl covered in moles.

If they still do, that entitles them to 7 free hours of recording time, they only haveto ask Luke about schedualing their free 7 hour recording session. Also, Luke knows his way around protools plugins better than I do, so he may be able to record them better, they just need to make sure they get a copy of the project on DVDRW and have someone more qualified than Luke mix and master it.

I would do some EQ to the toms and kick, but other than that, good job dude.

they seem really boosted in the 4k area so it's just a snappy sound you need some other stuff to fill it all out.
