Lars is indeed one of the worst metal drummers ever. I don't care what anyone says. I think Metallica's sound would have been better even in the 80's if they had a drummer who liked what he did and liked to be creative. Lars is not fucking creative.

If you do out the math and start with the Black Album as their downfall then you have good Metallica from 1981-1989 with Justice being their last good album, and then the black album came out in 1991 and from there on their music has gone down hill. So for 8 years they were awesome, and for 15 years that have been awful. If you do it that way then they have been bad longer than they were good. Even if you like the Black Album take that into consideration, then you have 1981-1991 which is 10 years of awesome music, then Load came out in 1996 and from 1996-2006 they have been putting out shitty music for 10 years hence they haven't really been Metallica in about 10 years. Once they cut their hair and started putting blood and cum on the covers of their albums they ceased to be Metallica and became gay.

Lars isn't that great a drummer, but his job is to keep the beat of the songs and, while his part isn't particularly impressive, he did what he was supposed to. Metallica was always more of a guitar driven band anyway, the riffs and solos were almost always their main focus. They probably wouldn't have made it very far if it weren't for those great British/European influenced riffs and Kirk's and Cliff's solos.

Lars is a terrible drummer, and no one can deny that. he looked past anything that would have brought depth to the guitar work and settled for basic structure. theres no integrity in that. he brought nothing to the table but reaped the rewards. say Dave Lombardo had tried out for Metallica instead of Slayer, it would have brought an entire new dimension to the music.

the level of drumming that you know now didn't even exist back then, shit when puppets came out, you had to order lightning on the black market, it was underground...meaning unmatched, tottally new to the scene man. sure celtic frost, slayer, venom, king diamond, anthrax, metal church and megadeth were around, and all fit in their own little click, but there were no sick drummers by todays standards, people back then were blown away by lars and his counterparts. looking back, yeah lars is not even in the same room as todays drummers, but your comments are a bit harsh, and giving the timeframe and everything i just typed(history lesson) can't you see what i am saying?
