That is, of coarse, unless you're a pussy and you only like American-rust water beer like Budweiser and don't have enough hair on your balls to enjoy a good barleywine style ale or something of the like.

I like a beer that, were you to stick a spoon in it, would cause said spoon to stand straight up, preferably the color of black coffee and/ or molasses. That being said, a nice hoppy ale is always good to cleanse the palate. And get you fucking shitfaced.

I don't necessarily only like "dark beers" so to speak. The color of the beer really doesn't have much weight on the alcohol content and/or flavor- if you think so you are just falling for the myth. Most Belgian ales, although they are not entirely see-through, are usually blond or semi-copper tone and they are just as brutal if not more than a lot of "dark" colored beers. I guess when it comes down to it, to be more specific, I like heavy beers - meaning heavy taste and an above average alcohol content.

These guys make some killer beers!

i'm not a fan of SUPER hoppy tasting beers, i.e. stouts, IPA's, etc.

Harpoon Summer is much better but I wouldn't call anything about the Sam Adams Summer horrendous. I don't know what swilly-nilly means so I can't comment on that. As I said before, it's a very good beer, not amazing.
