How many times have you heard some one say to you that they have grown up or you need to grow up an stop playing music??? Or something like that!!! |
|
All the time - I spent a good portion of my teen years writing music in DOS. The result was 20 hours of experimental video type music and me not getting laid for some time. |
|
not necessarily music in general, but definitely metal. my parents always said in school that in my early 20's i'd grow out of this "fad" and become normal. as my 20's progressed i delved deeper and deeper and am now 27 and more into it than i've ever been. |
|
me too. Although most who know me are aware that it's a lost cause... and i am much better playing metal than blowin meth every day. |

Anyone who has "grown up" by not playing music most likely wasn't playing music for the right reasons. Anyone who thinks you have to quit music to "grow up" doesn't understand what most people get out of music. There is a point to which some people take their music that can be detrimental to their general well-being, finances or relationships they have with others, but that doesn't mean music does that to everyone. |
|
it's probably because they've never had their asshole licked before. |

Great point. Even though I feel I am slowly growing out of certain things, it doesn't mean its because I am all growed up, its because I grew to distaste mostly everything including music. |

Simple Answer:
Most people who cannot relate to musicians or artists simply do not comprehend the emotions it creates. There are people out there that have 0% creativity and do not understand what it takes to create something.
Music is one of those things that people take for granted; even musicians. People listen to it all the time and don't understand or relate to the musician(s) who wrote it. I like to keep an open mind about music in the sense that each type of music results in different emotions and different moods. I've met many people who don't understand the drive one has to create art or music. They enjoy it, but don't understand it. |

I spend far too much time listening to grown men yell mean things about Jesus. I can only hope I'll grow out of this. On a positive note, I've become far more intolerant when it comes to shit bands and humoring / interacting with the average drooling metal fan retard manchild. |

the one thing i never want to be is "grown up". when i was a kid, the worst people in the world were "grown ups". they always ruined all the fun. i hope my epitaph says "FART & SHART". |

I felt this way too.
The math then worked out to:
Most adults are tools.
-and-
Most kids are tools.
EUGENICS!!! |

You wrote music in DOS?

Yes, in Impulse Track / Scream Tracker. Both are (were) based out of DOS.
They utilize .wav and .smp (and some other file types) and the job of the tracker - another name for composer - is to write the music by putting it into a certain descending pattern. It's something that is hard to pick up on at first, and at times it can get very confusing. It took me a few years to get the hang of it. I've been doing it since the mid 90s, after I discovered that writing midis sucked. |

Anyone who tells you that you need to "grow up" for any reason is a fuckass, maturity is a false concept. |

thats invalid blanket statement. some people do in fact need to grew up in terms of being more responsible adults...especially if they complain about shit all the time. but i do agree that your musical interests/involvments are not necessarilly a reflection of your maturity level. |
