I am in the process of trying to establish a new career (in pretty much any field) or at least a damn nice job that will pay the bills, have some sort of benefits and will not make me want to die. I'm looking in every place I can find, but I'm also asking as many people as I can where they've been able to find employment so I don't overlook any possibilities. Where have you had luck (e.g. staffing agencies, specific websites, etc.)? Any and all resources would be greatly appreciated. The general Boston area is where I'm aiming.

Bingo. I work at Rent a Center (rent to own furniture, appliances and electronics) and we are not slowing down, mostly due to the economy. People who do have credit and or just can't drop 1500 on a tv all at once are now my customers. The scumbags are the collection aspect and there's never a shortage of losers who want a 50" plasma tv in their 5x7 living room. They go late, I call the shit out of them, then bang on the door and snatch that shit. We are a rip off ill be the 1st to say, but I'm seeing generally cleaner and more tooth abundant customers these days. I know I'm not quitting anytime soon. I wouldn't suggest working at RAC though, it all sounds good: benefits, pays ok, you can buy stuff from work. But its a 48-50 hour shift and this job will suck the life out of you. Dealing with the absolute lowest form of human, calling you an asshole for them not paying. But I don't let it get to me and just make my $.

I would actually enjoy people calling me an asshole. Since I work management at my regular job, and it's in a retail environment, I am very used to it and actually think it's awesome since I am excellent at demeaning people with that attitude without sinking to "their level."

Last time I looked for a job I STARTED at craigslist and didn't even have to look anywhere else. Sent out some resumes and started talking to a half dozen different people setting up interviews within days. Crazy.

tell you the truth, if you can make it into downtown for work i can get you an interview in my office. Good opportunities for growth/advancement, pretty good money, guaranteed 50 hours a week. You gotta do the shirt and tie thing, and that sucks. But besides that, it's not too bad.

Service support rep.=basically, you would work for an account manager. (a salesman) The salesmen work out contracts with law firms for copy/scanning/printing/coding/hosting/post processing/graphic design jobs, and you would pick up the job (in an IKON van) and then write up all of the instructions for how our team will process the work. You would be fully trained on the job, benefits are good, but it's 8-6 mon-fri every week with no exceptions. no prob. Your pretty much a shoe-in here if you want it. I am doing really well here, the last four months i have been responsible for more than 100g a month. You would just have to deal with office politic bullshit, and wearing dress clothes.... but besides that it's worth it.

MFR, that temp agency gives you offers for direct weekly temping, short-term temping (3-6 months), or I think they can look for full-time. Problem is, they're all boston-based office jobs. I'm pretty sure some of them don't care whether or not you have a degree.

I used to fix PCs for RAC - you have never been in a more roach-infested building than the RAC warehouse. Keep in mind we serviced the whole northeast, from the Bronx all the way to scenic New Beffid. It was like a roach bus terminal. We also used to find all kinds of fucked up shit on the PCs. Had the FBI come and grab one 'cause the dude was collecting kiddie porn on a rented PC. Which is positively the way to do it. LOL
