What's a good one that's fairly inexpensive? Caroline and I are looking to spend $200 on a decent HD video camera or a really good regular camera that takes video too. Thoughts?

$200 for video = poop.

granted, but what will be the best bang for my buck?

toggletoggle post by the_taste_of_cigarettes  at Dec 28,2008 12:48am
Or what features should I look for?

when I was in the market last year there was no way you could buy an HD for less than $600

Just shoot video footage. Doesn't have to be the best. We want HD because then it's one less feature to consider in an upgrade down the road.

do you want to shoot 10 minute clips? 1 1/2 clips? what medium do you want to record to? how many lux do you want the thing rated for, etc...

toggletoggle post by the_taste_of_cigarettes  at Dec 28,2008 11:08am
What's a lux?

I guess we're looking at 10 minute clips? I don't know much about these cameras, it just seems there's a ton out there ranging from $119 to over $1000. We'd like to be able to take still photos on it and I think we're looking for some kind of zooming.

if you didn't care about zooming there is a flip/youtube HD camera that carina has that is pretty sweet (she has the non-HD version) and it's meant to go right to youtube.

That Flip one is awesome, I've been using my sister's.

I need something slightly more complex, though.

200 is more like a decent digital camera budget. look for out of box at best buy now is a good time.

What's the deal with video on a digital camera? I know some of them do it.
