from what i understand how we celebrate st. patricks day in america pisses off a lot of folks in ireland. For them its a religious holiday where you go to church and have a quiet meal with your family. Thats why i love it here in the US. fuck St. patrick that stupid wop piece of shit.

i dunno, i cooked with a drove of kids from Ireland and while they did say that it's a religious holiday, they ALSO said they drink their faces off for about 30hours as well.

some take it more seriously than others.
my cousin and my grandmother get angry as hell about it.
but i have definately met more than a few (especially in south boston) who drink more on saint patty's than i do all year

my great uncles in ireland are the ones who are hardcore about it being religious, most of the younger kids are caring less and less. Again i don't live there this is just what i've been told
