New site? Maybe some day.
|
So it looks like my Macbook Pro hates me. My monitor won't display anything even though the computer is on. I can even log in and turn the volume on and off. I can hear my email sound and everything...but the monitor just doesn't work.
I did some research and I'm pretty sure it's an NVIDIA packaging defect problem. I bought the laptop right in the middle of the time frame for the defect. I don't think I'm under warranty anymore and I don't have Apple Care. I have an appointment tomorrow and I'm a sad panda about this.
Do you have any advice xanonymousx?
(not on my macbook right now) |

hmmm idk man, take it into the store and see what they say, i'm not in the tech support there, so i can't tell you whats up, is it over a year since you bought it? and apple care would have probably covered this, but from the sounds of it, it may cost a lot of cash... i'd say hook it up to an external display and see if that works. |

i bet something just came unplugged |
|
can you see shit under the right light? |
|
if that is the case, they will probably fix it for free. |

Only after he runs msconfig |

lawl, no it's not the backlight, i tried lighting the screen with a flashlight. It's supposedly a packaging error caused by NVIDIA. It's not customer serviceable because it's a surface-mount part somewhere in that hunk of aluminum. I've heard that Apple will give you refunds for this error but I hope they'll do it for free because I don't have money. |

inverter is like 40-50 bucks
not that bad on 2k machine |
|

i need to replace the logic board for 300 bucks |
|
Sorry, I didn't feel like typing a bunch with the PS3. So I went in and he went through all the simple resets and tests that I had already gone through and he told me it was the logic board. I asked him to check if it was the NVIDIA defect and he did. Wasn't that. Either I pay 1200 for him to fix it in store or I pay 300 to send it away. Lame but I guess I have to send it away. |

For under 2K, I would have a quad core lappy. I forgot the gay premium you must pay on those machines. last inverter I bought was $100. |

Speaking of trouble with 'puters. I'm going to buy my 5th laptop in 4 months. Yay broken shit. |
|
it's always the fucking logic board with macs. 2 killed in this manner for me! |

And holy shit it's been this way SINCE 1987! |

Hahaha, thank you Conservationist.
Now I don't consider myself an Apple fanboy by any means. Yes I have an iPod but I only bought the Macbook Pro for college which I partly regret. Almost all of the engineering programs I need are for Windows and the rest are way too expensive and impossible to pirate. I did dual boot into 64-bit Vista. Vista sucks too.
What I like about the Mac OS is how simple it appears. I'm not going to say that anyone can sit down and figure out how to use in seconds like some people tout, but when you figure it out it makes so much more sense than Windows. For me at least. I was planning on getting a cheap Windows computer to do my work anyway.
Well, now I'm quoted on the internet. I win, right? |

lol wut ive never had a motherboard blow. And you just pulled the 1987 year out of your ass with shortcuts. My apple IIsi still works while my 1985 SE had a failed psu in 93. Ill agree on the price which is why I make hackintosh desktops now... I cant exactly afford a 2k compy. But I encourage people who can to keep funding one of my favorite systems XD. |

No, I didn't -- I specifically referenced the Mac II.
Certain models lasted better than others. The IIsi, while a cripple, did OK; the SEs did better.
But the SE/030s? Oof. |
